Made a last minute decision to catch the group stage match against the Philippines. Tickets for the Singapore sections were all sold out, so I bought a ticket in the Timor Leste section. Due to Covid protocols, the Sports Hub was barely at one-fifth of its capacity, which was a shame. But it was still a memorable experience - the atmosphere was great throughout the game, although sitting right next to a Philippines supporter made cheering kinda awkward at the start. This was the second matchday of the group stage, with Singapore beating Myanmar 3-0 in their opening fixture. The Philippines began with three players going down within the first 15 minutes, which incurred the wrath of the Singaporean fanbase. For the remainder of the game, the crowd booed Stephan Schröck whenever he was on the ball (perhaps because of his distinct 'botak' hairstyle). Great banter that was appreciated by the player as well. Captain Hariss Harun opened the scoring and Faris Ramli added another barely a minute later. A Philippines goal made affairs tense in the closing stages, but Singapore held on for a crucial 1-2 victory. This puts Singapore in good position to qualify for the semifinals, provided we don't choke against Timor Leste next Tuesday. Love watching live football matches at stadiums, and I'm glad I decided to attend this match. Mad experience watching a football match alone, but I think it's still more fun to go with friends.
