For a long time, almost every top shot putter used the glide technique, which was made popular by Parry O’Brien in the 1950s. But that started to change when the spin technique came along. It was first used by a Soviet thrower named Aleksandr Baryshnikov in the 1970s, but later an American named Brian Oldfield made it more popular with his powerful and exciting style.
