Pakistan recently hosted New Zealand for a five-match T20I series that ended in a draw. The first game was washed out due to rain while both teams won two matches each to share the spoils. The visitors’ skipper Babar Azam was the leading run-scorer for his side, registering 125 runs in four outings while Shaheen Afridi and Abbas Afridi picked up eight and five wickets respectively in the series at home against New Zealand. Pakistan are yet to announce their squad for the global event, scheduled to be held in the Caribbean and the USA in June, and this tour of Ireland could well be an audition for those who are yet to cement their place in the final squad. The visitors have recalled Hasan Ali, who last played a T20I back in September 2022, for the series against Ireland while Salman Ali Agha and Haris Rauf are also back for the Men in Green. Mohammad Amir, who made his international return recently, faced visa issues and did not travel with the rest of the squad to Ireland. His availability remains doubtful for the first match. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that their final 15 for the T20 World Cup will be chosen from the 18-man squad that has been picked for the tours of Ireland and England. Ireland, on the other hand, have announced their 15-member squad for the world tournament and would look to test them against some of the big players in world cricket. Irish skipper Paul Stirling has been in sublime form in their domestic T20 tournament and scored 138 runs in three matches. The hosts would rely heavily on the experience of George Dockrell and Andrew Balbirnie along with their captain Stirling when they take on Pakistan at home. Josh Little, who is playing for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been given the permission by Cricket Ireland to stay with the franchise till the end of the tournament and he will not be available for the hosts against Pakistan. While India - with a better batting line-up - are the favourites, but in an India-Pakistan match, reputation, form and track record has little meaning. With the pitch assisting the fast bowlers, it is unlikely to be a high-scoring game but will nevertheless be a keenly contested one. Head to Head: India lead 6-1 in their seven T20 World Cup meetings against Pakistan. Each of the last five T20 WC games between the two have been won by chasing teams. Team Watch India Tactics & Matchups: Rizwan and Babar's vulnerability against left-arm spin is no secret. The duo strikes at only 116 and 107.2 against the ilk, respectively, and have lost their wickets to left-arm spinners 7 and 6 times, respectively, in all T20Is. India could be tempted to throw the new ball to Axar Patel for an over to two for an early breakthrough. Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj Pakistan Tactics & Matchups: Indian openers Rohit (SR: 121.21) and Kohli (SR: 103.10) have been dismissed 13 and 4 times, respectively, by left-arm seamers in the PowerPlays in T20Is since 2016, making their match-up against Afridi and Amir one to watch-out for. Probable XI: Babar Azam (C), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Usman Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Azam Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan/Saim Ayub, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Amir, Haris Rauf

The shot making remained conducive throughout the duration of the game as the ball seemingly flew off the bat. The day game between Nepal and Netherlands was a battle of attrition for the batters after light showers delayed scheduled start. However, Thursday is expected to be bright, sunny and hot. Team Watch USA USA captain Monank Patel went down with fever after the Canada game which ensued his absence from Tuesday's training session. He is expected to recuperate in time for Thursday. Probable XI: Monank Patel (c & wk), Steven Taylor, Andries Gous, Aaron Jones, Corey Anderson, Harmeet Singh, Nitish Kumar, Jasdeep Singh, Saurabh Netravalkar, Ali Khan, Shadley Van Schalkwyk/Nostush Kenjige Pakistan Imad Wasim is set miss out for Pakistan's opening bout due to side strain. Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed is tipped to be inducted as the second spinner along with Shadab Khan. Pakistan are saddled with the difficult decision of leaving out at least one between Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Amir and Naseem Shah. Probable XI: Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Usman Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, Azam Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf/Mohammad Amir, Naseem Shah

Pakistan have been on the road for a few weeks now as they had travelled to Ireland for a three-match series recently. The Men in Green managed to clinch the bilateral series after losing the series opener. Pakistan are the only team left who haven’t announced their squad for the global event, set to be played in the Caribbean and the USA in June. They will look at the performances in the upcoming T20I series against England before deciding their final 15 for the multinational tournament. The returning Mohammad Amir failed to impress in the two matches that he played against Ireland. He bowled his full quota of four overs in both games but only managed to take two wickets and went for 76 runs. Hasan Ali played the final match of the series but he too proved to be expensive against a relatively inexperienced Ireland batting line-up. The medium pacer has been released from the squad on the eve of the series opener. Pakistan had to fight hard to get over the line against Ireland and would be keen to put on a better performance against England. For England, the biggest news was the comeback of their premier fast-bowler Jofra Archer. The right-arm quick had missed over 12 months of cricket due to an elbow injury. Some of the big names of England cricket, who were part of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have come back for the series against Pakistan as the hosts would look to make a statement before their title defence next month. All eyes will be on England’s skipper Jos Buttler who has not been in the best of form lately. In IPL 2024, he only managed to score 359 runs in 11 matches. All-rounder Liam Livingstone, who left the IPL midway due to an injury, is unlikely to start the series and Ben Duckett might play ahead of him. For the visiting team, their head coach Gary Kirsten has joined them in the United Kingdom after finishing his stint with the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL. It will be a tough task for the Babar Azam-led side to take on a full strength English team in their own backyard.
