Um dos grandes jogadores do Flamengo nos anos 90, Sávio foi cria da base do time Rubro Negro. Cria da base do Flamengo, atuou de 1992 a 1997, onde atuou por 261 partidas, tendo anotado 95 gols. Primeiro grande ídolo da Gávea pós-Zico, Sávio era um furacão pelo lado esquerdo do campo. Nesta partida contra o São Paulo, em 1997, o Anjo Loiro fez dupla de ataque com o baixinho Romário.
