Hailey Dirk, Cougar Athletics CALGARY - Following a hard loss the day prior, the Mount Royal Cougars took on The UBC Okanagan Heat on Sunday. The Cougars immediately proved how much they wanted the game with a fiery start, and sealed the game 2-0 in the second half. MRU Cougar goalscorer Rohin Nazari called it an "important game to break our losing streak and gain our momentum back." The Cougars were full of spirit when the game kicked off and Orest Ndabaneze scored a quick shot on the Heat, almost fatefully rebounding against the goal scored against them in the first five minutes the day before in their game with the Cascades. There was a moment where the Cougars net became unprotected for a brief moment, but a kick from the Heat missed. Kyran Valley, the Cougars goalkeeper caught another shot aimed at his net, keeping the score at 1-0 in his team's favour. During a corner kick, Daniel Harrison nearly scored the Cougars second goal but wasn't successful. By the end of the first half, Ndabaneze's goal remained the only point, leaving the outcome of the game still open for prediction. The second half of the game started and after an extended amount of back and forth play, Brandon Canejo from the Cougars was given a free kick and planted the ball on the Heat's side of the field. Rohin Nazari was there and scored the Cougar's second unanswered goal. With Valley continuing to keep the Cougars net completely covered, the Cougars finally snapped their losing streak with a shutout against the Heat. The BoosterJuice players of the game were Tyler Dhillon from the Heat and Pavie Rai from the Cougars. Both teams head to BC next week with the Cougars playing their next game on September 21st, taking on the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver, while UBCO return home to Kelowna and host the MacEwan Griffins and the Saskatchewan Huskies.
