Winnipeg Jets Lose in Overtime to the Washington Capitals 4-3. Cole Perfetti scores his first NHL goal for the Winnipeg Jets on a beautiful pass from Pierre-Luc Dubois and Logan Stanley. Alexander Ovechkin scores again as Ovechkin continues to chase Wayne Gretzky's goal record and now Ovechkin leads the NHL in goals this season. Nikolaj Ehlers injuries his knee and will miss time for the Winnipeg Jets as a vicious hit from Dimitri Orlov. Will Orlov face suspension from the NHL? Connor Hellebuyck has a so-so night for the Jets however Coach Dave Lowry should have challenged for goalie interference on goal 3 for Washinton. Nate Schmidt did not have a strong game and I make a case for Logan Stanley critics to back off a bit on the kid. Dylan Samberg plays 11 minutes for the Jets on the second pairing but missed every second shift as Neal Pionk logged 23 minutes. Mark Scheifele had a strong game and Andrew Copp led the Jets in ice time with 25 minutes. Coach Dave Lowry has the Winnipeg Jet's Penalty Kill among the NHLs best from the NHL's worst in 2021 under Paul Maurice. The Winnipeg Jets Power Play remains how as Kyle Connor scores the opening goal and Pierre-Luc Dubois scores to tie the game and take it overtime. Austin Poganski who the heck is he? AHL journeymen have been called on the fill-in for the Winnipeg Jets through COVID 19 as Brenden Dillion and Evgeni Svechnikov remain sidelined. Blake Wheeler is skating again and can return in as little as 10 days which will be a welcome addition after the loss of Ehlers. Paul Stastny is still out but the Jets hope he can return soon.
