FAI Cup: Semi Final Oriel Park, Louth Dundalk had a mighty challenge in order to get to their fourth consecutive FAI Cup final; the First Division Champions UCD. It was quite an even contest for the first half an hour. A bad tackle from Daniel Cleary sparked a lot of controversy regarding the referees decision to only issue a yellow card, many thinking it should have been red. However, a 41st minute magnificent strike from Man of the Match Patrick McEleney was all the Lilywhites needed to get to the final.
This was Brays final chance to maintain top flight status in the League of Ireland. They needed the three points to stay in the Premier Division. Sligo celebrated the clubs 90th year anniversary with their special retro jerseys. Caolan McAleer put the Bit O’ Red ahead after half time. Shortly afterwards Jake Ellis slid the ball past Mark O’ Connor at a tight angle to equalize for the Seagulls, giving them some hope. However just one minute later, Mikey Drennan headed the ball home to grab the three points for Sligo. This match officially relegated Bray Wanderers. President Michael D. Higgins attended the match.
