Cleveland Browns AFC Playoff 22-17 Loss To Kansas City Chiefs

— The Cleveland Browns couldn’t take advantage of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes getting concussed and leaving Sunday’s game. — Late in the fourth quarter, Chad Henne’s 13-yard scramble on 3rd and 14 was incredible. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy made a gutsy decision to run a play with a backup quarterback on 4th and inches to seal the game. — Around the end of the first half, Rashard “Hollywood” Higgins’ fumble near the goal line changed the course of Sunday’s game. While Higgins did appear to fumble short of the end zone, Kansas City Chiefs safety Daniel Sorensen led with his head. He should have been penalized for targeting. The Chiefs got the ball back on a touchback. Could the NFL decide in the offseason to allow referees to review such a play in future seasons? It reminded the group of when the Los Angeles Rams had a no-call on what should have been a defensive pass interference penalty against the New Orleans Saints during the 2019 NFC Championship game. — Higgins’ fumble has some eerie similarities to Earnest Byner’s fumble in a Browns playoff game on Jan. 17, 1988. — In the fourth quarter down 22-10, tight end Austin Hooper made a diving catch on 4th and 3. The catch kept the Browns alive and in the game. It led to Kareem Hunt’s three-yard rushing touchdown. —Should Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski have gone for it on 4th and 9 from Cleveland’s 32 yard line with 4:19 left in the fourth quarter? — Henne’s interception to Karl Joseph was the equivalent of an arm punt. — The Browns struggled to run the ball in the first half: They had only 18 rushing yards at halftime. They averaged 148.4 rushing yards per game in the regular season. The Browns finished with 112 rushing yards. — David Njoku played his best game as a member of the Browns. — The Browns had too many dropped passes against the Chiefs. — Head coach Kevin Stefanski deserves to win NFL Coach of the Year in what was the best Browns’ season since at least 1994. The Browns kept it a one-score game against the defending Super Bowl champions. That says a lot about what the Browns accomplished in the 2020 season. — The Browns offensive line did well protecting Baker Mayfield considering the injuries to Jedrick Wills Jr. and Kendall Lamm. — Will the Browns pick up the fifth-year option on Mayfield’s rookie deal? — What will the Browns do with Odell Beckham Jr.? — How can the Browns improve their defense headed into the 2021 season? — Can the Browns win the AFC North in 2021? Host Mark Bergin is joined by fellow BrownsNation.com writer Wendi Oliveros. — Poop and rally: Lamar Jackson led the Baltimore Ravens to a thrilling 47-42 win over the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football. Jackson missed time in the fourth quarter because of “cramps.” — The Browns’ defense cost them in the loss. Their gap discipline against Jackson was poor. — Ravens kicker Justin Tucker made the game-winning 55-yard field goal. Tucker is historically accurate. He came into the game having made 90.8% of the field goals in his NFL career. — Baker Mayfield responded well after his first interception in five games. Mayfield scored three touchdowns (two passing and one rushing) after the pick. He proved why the Browns should pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. — Kicker Cody Parkey missed a 39-yard field goal and an extra point. Those four points could have been a difference-maker. — What a bad beat for gamblers as the Ravens covered. The Browns were 3-point underdogs, but ended up losing by 5 points after the safety on the final play of the game. — Browns need to beat both New York teams in the next two weeks. They’ll likely be favored against the New York Giants in Week 15 and against the New York Jets in Week 16. The Browns are looking to ensure a spot in the postseason and break their playoff drought. — Which quarterback is better long term? Baker Mayfield or Lamar Jackson?
