He has also played for the Milwaukee Rangers, the Seattle Mariners, and the Baltimore Orioles. Cruz was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers. He had 6 home runs and 13 RBIs in the series.1 Cruz was initially signed as an amateur by the New York Mets, and after three years in the Dominican Summer League, the Mets traded him for Oakland for Jorge Velandia on August 30, 2000. He played in the Oakland Athletics system for a time. The Milwaukee Brewers acquired him from Oakland along with pitcher Justin Lehr, in exchange for infielder Keith Ginter on December 16, 2004. Cruz spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons in the Brewers organization with the Double-A team, the Huntsville Stars. , and Triple-A, Nashville Sounds; and briefly in September 2005, he played for the Brewers in the Major Leagues. 2006 Cruz was acquired by the Rangers from the Milwaukee Brewers on July 28, 2006 along with outfielder Carlos Lee in exchange for Laynce Nix, Kevin Mench, Francisco Cordero and minor league pitcher Julián Cordero.
