(24 Aug 2018) Standing on a bison pelt, Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving was smudged with sacred grasses, presented with traditional quilts and eagle feathers and given a Lakota name that means "Little Mountain" as he was welcomed Thursday into his mother's Standing Rock Sioux tribe. The All-Star guard and his sister, model Asia Irving, visited the tribe's reservation that straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border for a daylong celebration recognizing their tribal heritage and support for the tribe's long battle against the Dakota Access oil pipeline. In front of a packed auditorium, they were honored with Lakota names during a ritual that tribal spokeswoman Danielle Finn said "is a very special rite of passage for a Lakota person." Kyrie Irving's Lakota name, Hela, is roughly pronounced (HAY'-law) and means "Little Mountain." Asia Irving's name, Tatanka Winyan, (tuh-TONG'-kuh WEE'-yun) means "Buffalo Woman." Both are associated with their White Mountain family. The Irvings' late mother, Elizabeth Ann Larson, was a member of the tribe and lived on the reservation until her adoption at a young age. Their late grandmother and great-grandparents also have ties to the reservation. (2 Jul 2018) BASKETBALL STAR LEBRON JAMES AGREES TO US$154 MILLION CONTRACT WITH LAKERS LeBron James is signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second time to join one of the National Basketball Association's (NBA's) most iconic franchises. (16 May 2018) CELEBS TALK ROYAL WEDDING As Prince Harry's fast-approaching marriage to American Meghan Markle is days away, more celebrities are weighing in on the royal wedding. "Inside the NBA" personality and former NBA Player Shaquille O'Neal won't be watching because he's jealous he's not going to marry the queen. "I've been trying to marry the queen for some years now. I realized if I married the queen, it would not make me the king. But good luck to them, and I hope everything goes well. Hopefully they will stay married forever," O'Neal said. Cedric the Entertainer, who was representing "the Last O.G." joked about being ready. "Well I have my TiVo set and I'm not going to miss one moment. I've got tea ready. I've got crumpets. I'm gonna drink. I've got a little dog, a corgi that's going to join me. It's going to be awesome. I'm going to wear a kilt. I don't know. I know she's from England, but for some reason I just want to have a kilt on," he said. His co-star, Tiffany Haddish gave Markle a shoutout. "I'm definitely going to watch. He went on to say that he feels for Harry. "I feel for Prince Harry because he's the second. He doesn't get anything. He doesn't wear a crown... His older brother gets everything." Then he softened saying he's happy for him because William and Harry lost their mother at a young age. "That part is touching. The Diana part. The Diana part is really interesting because she was quite a special human and those kids went through a lot obviously." North Korea and Malaysia football teams to play in Thailand after travel bans
(9 Nov 2017) After three delays, football players from North Korea and Malaysia said on Thursday that they are ready for their Asian Cup qualifier matches which are to be held at the Buriram Stadium, in northeast Thailand. The November 10 match is designated as North Korea's home game and the November 13 match will be Malaysia's home game. The neutral venue was chosen by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Asian football body, after delays and travel bans prevented players from Malaysia from entering Pyongyang. Malaysia's head coach Eduardo Manuel Martinho Vingado, said he thought it was "the best and good decision" to play in Thailand. North Korea's head coach Jorn Anderson said that playing in Thailand in high temperatures so different from their home country would be a disadvantage for his team, but that they would be ready to play. The game between the two teams was first delayed due to diplomatic tensions between North Korea and Malaysia during an investigation into the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's estranged half-brother in Kuala Lumpur. It was delayed again in June after the AFC cited security risks amid missile tests by North Korea. Then, Malaysia last month banned its citizens from travelling to North Korea which forced the AFC to postpone the match that had been scheduled for October 5 in Pyongyang. This week's matches will be held at Thunder Castle, home of Buriram United, who just celebrated their big win in the Thailand Toyota League on Wednesday. Kobe Bryant Says He'd Decline Trump WH Invite

Speaking at a news conference during a visit to a sports hall in Paris, the former Lakers player said the decision not to go would be "simple". Bryant said it was a matter of standing up for what you believe in, adding that it is the "beauty of" America to respect the freedom of speech and differences of opinion. Bryant, who last visited in Hong Kong in 2007, ended the clinic by tossing signed basketballs and T-shirts into the crowd, then autographing the shoes he wore and also giving them to two fans.
