Demolition Dominate Port Huron 5-1 By Lee W. Mowen DAYTON, OHIO- The Dayton Demolition came, saw, and dominated a spectacular Saturday performance of Port Huron in a 5-1 home victory. Jo St. Pierre, coming off his first OT loss of the season, shut down the potent Prowler offense with a 28 save performance and his third win of the year. Martin Uhnak and Michael Dolman provide the offensive party against Dan McWhinney tonight. In the first, Dayton jumps on top at the 2:36 mark, with Dolman's first of the night crashing past the Port Huron keeper. With Jesse Felten's quick moves around the Port Huron defense, he found Dolman quickly to give Dayton a quick 1-0 lead. Dolman helped out six minutes later, this time on a crisp pass to one Martin Uhnak. Cory Giroux's first assist on the night also found the twist and tangle of Uhnak's first blast. Dayton found themselves up 2-0 and dominating the possession game before the Prowlers got their only goal of the game. At 13:01, it was Julian Fraser scoring for the second time this weekend from the near point from Jared Hicks' feed. With a 2-1 lead after the first, Dayton came back out with force and scoring the only goal of the second with Michael Dolman's second. Myles McCauley connected with Brad Townsend on the final relay to Dolman, who scored his 18th of the season in the far faceoff circle and gave Dayton a 3-1 lead. Port Huron did have a great opportunity with a 1:30 of a 5-on-3 Power Play, but the Wrecking Crew were quite up to the task of keeping the Prowlers at bay. In the 3rd Period, Martin Uhnak completed the hat trick with goals at the 4:15 and the 15:18 marks. With Uhnak's second goal, Robert Vanwynsberghe worked the opposite wing against Matt Fuller. With Jo St. Pierre lacing the puck up to an open neutral zone, Vanwynsberghe and Uhnak continued to force McWhinney's side, and Uhnak had the final say on Dayton's fourth goal on the night. With the final offensive piece of the night, Uhnak finished a loose bouncing puck past an outstretched McWhinney from Cory Giroux's attempt and Brian Marks send to put the score to 5-1. Things got heated in the last minute, but the Dayton Demolition stomped the door on the Prowlers with the first home win of the series. Demolition Plays Leapfrog, Strong Hockey in 5-2 Win over Danville By Lee W. Mowen DAYTON, OHIO- The Dayton Demolition played a strong game of hockey and some jumping of the standings with a 5-2 win over the Danville Dashers. Dayton came out strong in the opening frame, continuously fought back when the Dashers scored, and held a powerful offense at bay throughout most of the competition with Jo St. Pierre anchoring the pipes. In the 1st Period, Scott Kozlak and Robert Vanwynsberghe brought the offense home against Dashers' starter Matt Anthony. At the 10:40 mark, Kozlak found the bouncing puck from Martin Uhnak's first shot, angling his 16th goal of the year. Brett Wall found Uhnak near the crease, and Dayton took a 1-0 lead. Shortly after Kozlak's score, it was Vanwynsberghe's turn to find the back of the net. Michael Dolman led the puck down to the attacking zone, finding Vanwynsberghe in the slot to give the Wrecking Crew a 2-0 lead and his sixth Dayton goal of the season (his 12th overall in 29 games.) Danville answered with two goals in the 2nd Period, with Dayton answering back shortly after each strike. The first Dashers score was at the 3:58 mark, when Justin Levac dragged the puck to the far face-off circle blasting his 12th goal of the season. Giroux's 5th Dayton goal of the year gave Dayton a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes. Both teams flew quickly down the ice in the 3rd period, with each team getting respectable chances and both goalies showing their game. It was Uhnak angling a straight-shot into the empty net for the icing on the 5-2 win, with Jo St. Pierre picking up his third assist and Myles McCauley with his 16th. The Demolition won 5-2, but not before a scrap between Chris Affinati of Danville and Dayton's Jay Kenney. Dayton outshot the Dashers 36-34 on the contest. Port Huron at Dayton Port Huron Prowlers Edge Demolition, 4-3 DAYTON -- Friday, Nov 6 marked the season opener for the Dayton Demolition hockey team; this is their first year under the new name after relocating from North Adams, MA where they were known as the Berkshire Battalion. What better way to kick off a season than with an opener against a rival team - the Port Huron Prowlers. Based out of Michigan, the Prowlers are coached by Trevor Karasiewicz, former head coach of the Dayton Demonz from 2013-2015. The puck hit the ice at 7:30 p.m. in Dayton's Hara Arena with the faceoff being between Uhnak of the Dayton Demolition and Hicks of the Port Huron Prowlers. The animosity felt between the two teams was definitely present during the first period with a four-player fight breaking out between Assistant Coach/player Wall & Schwartz of the Dayton Demolition and Vanwysberghe & Leveille of the Prowlers 4:45 min. into the game. Just 17 seconds later, there was another fight between C. Milligan of the Demolition and J. Alonzo of the Prowlers resulting in a penalty against Milligan. The Demolition and the Prowlers demonstrated how much heart and drive both have during the first period with several shots taken between the two showing it wasn't going to be an easy victory. L. George, goalkeeper of the Demolition, remained unscathed despite multiple shots taken on him by the Prowlers throughout the first twenty minutes. Shots were taken by Lysko, Marks, Pestriakov, and Morton of the Demolition during the first period but it wasn't until 3:11 was left on the clock when Schwartz sealed the deal with an assist by Marks. Within the last three minutes, Lysko and Carter both received two minute penalties for tripping leaving the Demolition with four players on the ice while the Prowlers had six. First period ended with a score of Dayton 1 and Port Huron 0. Less than a minute into the second period, Fuller of the Prowlers slams into Milligan resulting in Milligan leaving the ice in seek of medical attention. Both teams were out for blood - and it seemed so quite literally with a plethora of penalties for roughing, tripping and fighting throughout the second period. Skinner of the Prowlers, with the assistance of Henning and Tagoona, scores the teams first point 2:32 into the period. The remaining time on the clock was a tug-of-war between the two teams for control of the ice. Prowlers' Pace frequented the penalty box this period beginning 7:37 minutes in with a two-minute penalty for interference resulting in a Demolition Power Play. Skinner enters penalty box with 9:19 on the board for slashing. Henderson of Demolition gets a two minute penalty for tripping a Prowler 11:12 into the second period. Pace of the Prowlers and Dolman of Demolition are each given two minute penalties for roughing with 8:02 left in the period. With 5:25 left, Milligan and Kenney are sent to penalty box for five minutes for fighting. 2:38 left on the board and a brawl breaks out between Mahesh of the Demolition and Tagoona of the Prowlers. The two men go at it for almost a minute until split up by referees; each received five minute penalties for fighting. Despite the aggressiveness of the teams, the second period ends with Dayton 1 and Port Huron 1. First two minutes in of the final period and Pace scores on George bumping the Prowlers up to 2 points. Both teams played with intensity and aggressiveness with the puck never remaining on one half of the rink. Milligan assists Tracy for a goal with 12:23 on the board, equalizing the game. Two minutes later, Leveille sneaks past two Demolition defenders for a goal. With 6:48 left on the board, Milligan and Morton assist Marks for another point, tying up the game once again, where it remained tied through the end of the period. The game goes into shootout mode with Henderson of Demolition scoring the first goal, and after a miss by each team, Vanwysberghe of the Prowlers nails the puck in the net. Two more misses and its back to Henderson who gets another point for Dayton. At the end of the shootout, Leveille of the Prowlers scores the game winning point resulting in the final score of Dayton Demolition 3 and Port Huron 4.

Grudge Match Ends With Dayton Victorious in Overtime Derek Andrews and Robert Kirchner Dayton, Ohio---In what felt like an overtime game in the NHL Playoffs, each team had chances to score, but Dayton got the last word. In the three-on-three session, Vanwynsberghe stole the puck near mid-ice and scored on a breakaway to give his team the 5-4 victory with just 26.9 seconds left in overtime. For both clubs, it was evident that Thursday night's matchup at Hara Arena was the biggest game of the season thus far. Earlier in the day, Dayton activated Robert Vanwynsberghe who was reassigned to the team from Peoria of the Southern Professional Hockey League. For Watertown, Lucas LaBelle came back from suspension. Also, Forward Matt Wray, the team leader in penalty minutes, returned for the Wolves. Dayton and Watertown came into the game separated by one point in the standings for first place. The first period was a feeling out process for both teams. Dayton had the shot, outshooting the Wolves 14-3, while Watertown had the edge in puck possession. With just a couple of seconds left in the first period, Dayton won the face off deep inside of the Watertown zone, the puck was sent back to Brian Marks who was at the right point, and let go a wrist shot, though a screened Wolves goaltender, Josselin St. Pierre, and the puck went into the Wolves net with .5 seconds left on the clock, sending the Demonz into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead. Watertown tied it 3:10 into the second on Chad Bennett's goal from close range, his 22nd of the year. Wray got the assist as the intensity began to pick up. The Demonz appeared to score the go-ahead goal midway through the period, but officials claimed the goal was off its moorings before the puck crossed the red line. Dayton had a 27-8 advantage in shots to this point. Seth Ronsberg scored soon after on a rebound into an uncovered net with about five minutes to play in the second, giving the Demonz a 2-1 lead. The goal was his 20th of the season. The lead lasted 6:14 into the third. Phil Bronner carried the puck deep into the Demonz zone, fished the puck out of traffic, and slid it between the legs of Dayton's Dan McWhinney to tie it at 2-2. Third period action heated up seconds later as Jared Hicks notched a go ahead tally for Dayton. However, this lead lasted less than 20 seconds. Watertown's Cody Dion put one past McWhinney for the equalizer. This intense contest entered the last 10 minutes tied. Bronner scored his second of the evening to give the Wolves their first lead at 4-3. Third period action resembled a playoff atmosphere with several scrums and a five minute major for fighting sprinkled in for each team. McWhinney made a highlight reel save on a penalty shot to keep the deficit at one. The goaltender was faked out, but saved the puck with his stick as the crowd erupted. This turned out to be a game-saver. Fittingly, Ronsberg tied it with a slapshot over St. Pierre's left shoulder with a little over a minute to play in regulation. The best game of the year at Hara Arena went to overtime. As Vanwynsberghe's scored the game winner, making it final 5-4, the Demonz and Watertown are now tied with 80 points each for first place in the Federal Hockey League. This makes tomorrow's rematch that much more important with first place on the line. Stars of the Game Robert Vanwynsberghe (Dayton) Seth Ronsberg (Dayton) Matt Wray (Watertown) Next Home Game: Friday, February 6 at Hara Arena vs. Watertown. Gametime is 7:35 p.m.
