Jarrett Allen is now an All-Star for the Cavs. The Cleveland Cavaliers have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2021-2022 NBA season. Right now, the Cavs are primed to make the playoffs for the first time in three seasons and 5th year 6’11 center Jarrett Allen has been one of the reasons why the Cavs are thriving, to the point that Allen is building his case to be a Defensive Player of the Year Candidate, a Most improved player candidate as well as an All-Star. Joining Allen as part of the Cavs’ young core is rookie Evan Mobley who is primed to win the 2022 Rookie of the Year award, as well as 3rd year point guard Darius Garland who recently just got his first career triple double against the Utah Jazz. All season long, Coach JB Bickerstaff and the Cavs have trusted their three-big man lineup featuring Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, and Lauri Markkanen, which has anchored the Cavs’ defense to be one of the best defenses in the NBA. However, not all people liked the Cleveland Cavaliers’ decision to sign Jarrett Allen to a 5-year $100 million extension this past offseason, citing potential positional conflicts with 3rd overall pick and potential generational big man Evan Mobley. However, right now, both Allen and Mobley have been anchoring the Cavs frontcourt while both looking like All-stars. Despite Collin Sexton and Ricky Rubio out for the season with injuries, the Cavs have been able to step up because of guys like Kevin Love, Lamar Stevens, Isaac Okoro, and now with Rajon Rondo who the Cavs acquired in a trade after Rubio’s injury. The Cavs recently defeated teams like the Brooklyn Nets, the Chicago Bulls, the Utah Jazz, and other contending teams. Evan Mobley is primed to become the Rookie of the year because of his great play on both ends of the floor, Darius Garland is also primed to be an All-Star as he has notched career-highs and multiple double doubles this season. Garland was just named Eastern Conference rookie of the month after averaging 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 12.8 assists as the Cavs went 4-0. Despite losing during Klay Thomson’s return, the Cavs still played great against Golden State. All in all, the Cavs are also witnessing the revival of Kevin Love’s career. Guys like Cedi Osman, Lamar Stevens, and Dean Wade have also been contributing to the Cavs’ success. But can coach JB Bickerstaff utilize the young core of Garland, Mobley, Allen, Okoro, and Sexton to climb up the elite tier of NBA teams?
