Allen Iverson's Two-Handed Tip-Dunk Over Tony Battie (1996 Sweet 16)

March 21, 1996 - Texas Tech entered their Sweet 16 matchup with Georgetown with a 30-1 record, their only loss coming to Eastern Michigan in late December. Then Allen Iverson happened. After a slow first half in which he connected on just 6-of-17 shot from the field, the two time Big East Defensive Player of the Year turned it up in the second half, keying a 17-0 run to push Georgetown to a 98-90 win and a berth in the NCAA's Elite Eight. Iverson finished with 32 points (10-of-29), five assists, and five steals in the win. Tony Battie, the 6-foot-11 center Iverson dunked on in the clip above, was drafted fifth overall in the 1997 draft and went on to play 14 NBA seasons. Georgetown's tourney run—and Allen Iverson's collegiate career—came to an end one game later in an 86-62 loss to Marcus Camby and the University of Massachusetts. UMass then fell to the eventual NCAA champion Kentucky in the Final Four. Kentucky's roster featured six future NBA players (Antoine Walker, Walter McCarty, Derek Anderson, and Tony Delk with Mark Pope and Ron Mercer coming off the bench). For those wondering about the Eastern Michigan team that handed Texas Tech their only other loss, that squad was led by the talented triumverate of Brian Tolbert, Derrick Dial, and yes, 5-foot-5 future NBA super reserve Earl Boykins. They finished first in the MAC and, as a No. 9 seed, upset Duke with a 75-60 victory in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
