Toronto Maple Leafs @ Winnipeg Jets | 5/14/21 | Maple Leafs Post Game

Game 56; the final regular season game, features our beloved Toronto Maple Leafs vs the Winnipeg Jets! Sounds like there may have been a "gentlemen's agreement" prior to the game. Understandably so! Neither team needs an injury heading into the playoffs! The Maple Leafs strike first as Pierre Engvall pots his 7th of the season! The Jets were quick to respond early in the second, knotting it up, 1-1. The Leafs, Ilya Mikheyev made it 2-1 Leafs half way through the second. But Winnipeg resonded again as we end the second period 2 a piece. It was all Jets in the third, scoring to take the lead and finishing things off with an empty netter. This Leafs fan is just happy to head into the 2021 NHL playoffs healthy! But, the Leafs lose.

Game 55, the Toronto Maple Leafs vs the Ottawa Senators! The Sens, as per usual, were tough to play against. Didn't look like the Maple Leafs were giving it their all. Ottawa jumped up to a 3-1 lead in the second before John Tavares brought the Leafs within one, going into the third. And who other than Auston Matthews would tie it up late in the game. Heading into overtime, this Leafs fan thought Toronto was going to leave with two points tonight. But it was the Senators who came away with the win. Your other goal scorers were Jake Muzzin, Nikita Zaitsev, Connor Brown, Parker Kelly got his first NHL goal and Josh Norris won it in OT. One final note: Frederik Andersen started in net for the Leafs; didn't look bad, but didn't look good either.

Game 54 and the Toronto Maple Leafs take on the Montreal Canadiens! Montreal scores first with the period ending 1-0. The Canadiens score again early in the second to take a 2-0 lead! Not to worry, sharp shoot Pierre Engvall puts the Maple Leafs on his back and snipes from the top of the slot! 2-1 Habs. About halfway through the frame, the Leafs get another! Tik, tak, toe; William Nylander ties it up! But wait! The Buds weren't done there! Late in the second, Auston Matthews wins an ozone draw back to Mitch Marner and HE FINDS THE COOKIE JAR!! Top shelf! Toronto up 3-2 at the end of the second period. Long story short, nothing happens in the third and the Toronto Maple Leafs clinch top spot in the Northern Division!! Go Leafs Go! This Leafs fan is happy!

Game 53 and tonight was all about Auston Matthews hitting the 40 goal milestone! Patience young grasshopper, we'll get there! The Toronto Maple Leafs came out flying with Alex Galchenyuk scoring 16 seconds into the first! Montreal came on strong immediately after that, putting forth a wild and crazy scramble shift in the leafs zone for a good minute or so, but alas, left empty handed. The Maple Leafs, or more specifically, John Tavares popped in the Leafs second goal shortly after. OH BABY! In the second half of the first, who other than Leafs legend, Pierre Engvall.....streaked down the wing sniping on the young Habs goaltender, Cayden Primeau. Making it 3-0. OH, but the Buds weren't done there! Mitch Marner came blazing in the ozone, showing speed and skill with some seriously sick dangles! Deaking out Primeau and scoring the Leafs 4th and final goal.....of that period. In the second, Cole Caufield bagged his third goal of his career, bringing the Montreal Canadiens within 3. Early in the third, the Habs cut Toronto's lead yet again, when Lehkonen scored. 4-2 Leafs...But wait! With 4:19 left in the game, the legend and possible God, Auston Matthews scored his 40th goal of this shortened season! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!! WOO!! Go Leafs Go! Leafs win 5-2! Side note, Ilya Mikheyev scored but it didn't count. Should have, but didn't. Dang does he ever have terrible luck with goals being called back!
