The Italian Male Volleyball League is structured in several levels of importance; the highest of them is SuperLega (former Serie A1). Since the early 1980s, many among the best volleyball players in the world play in Superlega and the overall level of competition is considerably high. SuperLega is the highest level club competition in Italian professional male volleyball. It is organized by Federazione Italiana Pallavolo (FIPAV) and Lega Pallavolo Serie A. La Volley Tonno Callipo nasce ufficialmente nel 1993 con la fusione tra due realtà sportive locali: la Pallavolo Vibo Marina e la Fiamma Vibo Valentia. È quello il punto di inizio dell’inarrestabile cavalcata che dalla C2 portò alla Serie A nel giro di pochissimo tempo. La storica promozione nella massima serie è datata 13 maggio 2004. L’anno prima, invece, la squadra del Presidente Pippo Callipo aveva vinto il suo primo trofeo: la Coppa Italia di A2. Una bacheca in cui figurano tre promozioni in A1, altrettante Coppa Italia di A2, una finale di Coppa Italia ed una di Supercoppa di A1 e, a livello giovanile, lo scudetto Under 14. Tutto questo mentre il 2020 è l’anno in cui la formazione giallorossa varca con orgoglio la soglia dei vent’anni nella massima serie del volley italiano. Un sogno trasformato in realtà, fatto di tradizione e proiettato sempre più verso il futuro. Nel 2017 la Lube Volley torna ai vertici del volley italiano, conquistando Scudetto e Coppa Italia nella stessa stagione. Uno splendido "double" che replica nel 2019 vincendo il quinto tricolore in una memorabile Gara 5 di Finale, abbinandolo stavolta alla seconda Champions League della sua storia grazie al trionfo nelle Super-Finals di Berlino contro i russi del Kazan, dominatori delle ultime 4 edizioni. Il 2019 si chiude poi in maniera trionfale: a Betim, in Brasile, la Lube Volley vince per la prima volta nella sua storia il Mondiale per Club, salendo così sul tetto del mondo e conquistando l'unico titolo mancante nel suo già ricco Palmares. Bacheca che viene poi ulteriormente arricchita dalla sesta Coppa Italia vinta nel 2020. Oltre al Mondiale per Club, ai 5 scudetti e alle 2 Champions League, il Palmares dal 2001 in poi annovera anche 6 Coppe Italia, 3 Coppe Cev, 1 Challenge Cup, 4 Supercoppe Italiane, facendo risultare di fatto il Club come il più titolato del XXI secolo, con in bacheca tutti i trofei attualmente in palio nel mondo del volley.
