Nicholls Women's Basketball: Colonels vs McNeese State

https://geauxcolonels.com/sidearmstats/wbball/summary THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will take on McNeese on Wednesday, Jan. 29 for its annual 'Stuff Stopher' game. Tipoff in Stopher Gymnasium is scheduled for 6 p.m. The 'Stuff Stopher' game features $1 tickets, hot dogs, and popcorn. Along with the usual free admission, there will be giveaways and promotions for students throughout the game. WATCH | LIVE STATS With two wins each in conference play at the midway point, Nicholls and McNeese are looking to make up some ground in the Southland standings as both teams are currently outside of the eight-team tournament field. The Colonels have made it to the postseason eight consecutive years, highlighted by a tournament title in 2018. Nicholls (5-14, 2-8 SLC) took care of HBU on the road last week but was unable to piece together back-to-back wins after falling to New Orleans on Saturday. In the split, seniors Chrystal Ezechukwu and Airi Hamilton had outstanding showings in leading the Colonels in the two games. Hamilton posted double-doubles in both games, the first and second of her career, averaging 17.5 points and 11.5 rebounds. Ezechukwu averaged 20.5 points on 64 percent shooting, highlighted by a career-high 25 points against UNO. McNeese (5-13, 2-7 SLC) also defeated last-place HBU on Saturday to end its three-game losing streak. The Cowgirls' other league win was at home against Northwestern State. Both of the wins were at home and they will be looking for their first road win of the season. The Cowgirls have two players averaging double figures in scoring - Regan Bolton (11.4 ppg) and Damilola Balogun (10.6). Bolton was the star of McNeese's victory in Thibodaux last year, hitting seven 3-pointers for a game-high 25 points. Nicholls won the last meeting, 78-55, as Hamilton and Ezechukwu combined for 25 points. The victory gave the Colonels their third win in the last four meetings.
