To understand how India will perform against Nepal we need to look at how India has performed in the recent past. So lets look at how India performed in the two friendly games versus Nepal before SAFF. As you can see, the first match was a draw and the second match we won by 2-1. So, it's clear that we are the favourites to win against Nepal. But it will be a hard match considering the form of Nepal since they have won their previous 2 matches. They won against Maldives and Sri Lanka. This is because it was an open game and none of the teams played defensively. But if you look at the Bangladesh and Sri Lanka game versus India, you may have noticed that both teams were made to play defensively due to dominating performance of team India. Skill-wise Indian players are much better than other teams in SAFF, but some problems led to India's undesirable results till now. After good performances of team India under coach Stephan Constantine, AIFF & Indian fans wanted a change in playing style. So Igor Stimac was brought in for this difficult task and India is still struggling to score goal since then. Yes, India's playing style has improved from just being counter attacks. But India has struggled to find a quality goalscorer upfront other than Sunil Chhetri. All the prolific goalscorers during Constantine's era are out of the team due to poor performance or injuries or are having a difficult time in terms of form. There is similar issue in the defense department and we don't have a solid defence yet. But still we are not that poor as it is being reflected in the results. Our opponents are just getting lucky whereas we have been unlucky. I hope all the hardwork that players put in will bare it's fruits soon as possible and we get the required experience from this SAFF Championship. At the end we have to qualify for AFC Asian Cup 2023, and I hope that our bad luck does not continue and we win against Nepal. Also, hope that we win the SAFF Championship but our main focus is and should be on developing and giving experience to each and every player who will help us in the Asian Cup qualifiers. Afterall, it will be disappointing if we loose in Asian Cup qualifiers after winning the SAFF championship. Don't forget that we drew against Qatar but that doesn't mean that we are equal to Qatar.
