Mendy's role saw him play much more often as a inverted full back to vacate the wide area for their winger and Gundogan moving outward. Ferran Torres played as a false nine to complete the five man midfield. On the opposite side Cancelo played a little bit wider than Mendy while still playing slightly narrow. He acted as a natural connection to the winger and advanced midfielder. Manchester City looked to target the wide midfielders of Leicester and affect their positioning to clear advanced space.
