Kasper Schmeichel reveals 'horrifying' details of Leicester helicopter crash

Schmeichel saw the chopper come down and burst into flames outside the King Power Stadium after their game with West Ham on October 27. Five people were on board and there were no survivors. Schmeichel enjoyed an extremely close relationship with Srivaddhanaprabha, who led Leicester to a shock Premier League title in 2015/16. And the Dane says he can still remember every ‘horrifying’ detail of the incident in an emotional interview with Sky Sports. “Unfortunately, [I remember] everything. Every little detail,” he said. “I had family over from Denmark and I gave them a little look around the stadium and the pitch - the helicopter was always a big attraction. “We waved him off, waved him goodbye, and we kind of just watched him go up. “I’d seen him do it hundreds of times - it was a kind of ritual thing in the end. “You could just tell something was wrong, because it doesn't normally stand still like that. And what unfolded, unfolded. “I ran straight out of the tunnel and round to that side of the stadium. People over that side of the stadium hadn't seen what had gone on. “So I came sprinting out, shouting for people to call the police, one of our security guards saw me, ran after me. “We managed to get close - our security guard got closer than I did, and he [the security guard] tried to get in and do something. “But it was very evident from the heat that there was nothing anyone would be able to do. “And yeah - it was horrifying, horrible, to be that helpless.” Schmeichel credits Srivaddhanaprabha for his success and for turning his career around. Before moving to Leicester, the 32-year-old had failed to follow in his father Peter’s footsteps by breaking into the first team at Manchester City on a regular basis and had loan spells at clubs such as Darlington, Bury and Falkirk. “If you look back at my career, I've had to constantly prove myself and be compared to others,' Schmeichel added. “Constantly having to prove I am good enough. Then came a guy who said he believed in me from the first minute. “He said he'd seen me play and just gave me the platform. “I’ve been here nearly eight years now and that says a lot about the stability here and the belief he had in me. Having gone from nine clubs to just being at one club, I was searching for someone who believed in me - he and his family did. “It's very easy to be caught up in this world of money, fame and fortune.  “He is a guy who has done all that and doesn't care about it. He only cares about helping people. “I think it just goes to show the impact he had and the kind of person he was. “He didn't need to buy a football club. A football club’s not a good business investment. “They lose money like you would;t believe. “He had a passion for the club, for Leicester, all that he did for the city - the hospitals, the donations. All these kind of things. “It was ownership done properly. If you're a fan of any club, that's the type of owner you want, the type of owner you dream of having.”

Salford City teen did a ‘Beckham’ in front of the man himself with halfway goal vs Dover

David Beckham recently joined his former Class of '92 teammates in their venture to build a football club from the ground up by becoming a co-owner of National League side Salford City.  The former England captain got his first chance to see the team in action on Sunday when he travelled to the Peninsula Stadium for his new side's tie with Dover.   The Salford lads would be used to playing in front of big names with the likes of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes regularly attending fixtures, but having the superstar that is Beckham watching on would have been very nerve-wracking, to say the least.  It did, however, seem to be working a treat for the home side when, inside ten minutes, Dennis Politic channelled his inner Beckham to find the net from just beyond the halfway line.  It was a fantastic finish and a goal his new boss would have been more than proud of.  Have a look at the goal in the clip below:  Look familiar? Of course it does.  Way back in 1996, a fresh-faced Beckham scored a very similar goal in a league clash with Wimbledon in what would later be labelled the goal of the decade.  Replicating that fine finish in front of the man himself is undoubtedly an absolute dream come true for any 18-year-old and Politic, who is currently at the club on loan from Bolton Wanderers, will certainly be pinching himself for the next few days.  Sadly, that was as good as it would get for Salford, as Beckhams presence failed to inspire them to a win, with Dover running out 3-1 winners in the end.  Still, Beckham could not have asked for a better first goal to see when watching his new club, but he will probably be hoping for better results in the coming weeks.

Dimitar Berbatov identifies PSG star Man Utd should sign

Dimitar Berbatov has claimed Marco Verratti would be “great at Manchester United ”, believing the Paris Saint-Germain star is up there with the likes of Barcelona midfield greats Xavi and Andres Iniesta.  Verratti produced an impressive performance against United, bossing the midfield as PSG came away from Old Trafford with a well-deserved two-goal lead going into the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.  Berbatov knows a thing or two about impressing the Old Trafford faithful, the Bulgarian striker winning two Premier League titles during his four-year spell with the European giants.  And the 38-year-old, who is currently without a club after leaving Indian outfit Kerala Blasters last year, believes Italian maestro Verratti would be the perfect partner for Nemanja Matic.   “Marco Verratti was very impressive in the centre of the park for PSG,” Berbatov told Betfair .  “What I like about him is that his first thought is always to go forwards, but if that's not on, he's happy just to keep the ball, controlling the tempo and almost putting the other team to sleep.  “He is an unbelievable talent; he reminds me of Xavi and Iniesta in many ways.  “He'd be great at United next to Matic in midfield, allowing the Serbian to do the dirty work while he controlled the game. I can't see PSG selling though!”   United now turn their attention to the FA Cup, with Solskjaer’s men traveling to Stamford Bridge to face fierce rivals Chelsea in the fifth round on Monday night. Michael Owen’s FA Cup fifth round predictions including Chelsea vs Manchester United
Michael Owen’s FA Cup fifth round predictions including Chelsea vs Manchester United

The 5th Round of the FA Cup takes centre stage this weekend and once again Brand Ambassador Michael Owen shared his thoughts on all the last 16 action exclusively with BetVictor.  Remember there are no replays this season from the 5th Round onwards and the ties will go to extra-time and then penalties to find a winner.  Queens Park Rangers vs Watford  QPR were four down after 42 minutes to Birmingham City at the weekend, but they would have picked up an unlikely point had Nakhi Wells not had his injury time penalty saved by former Rangers keeper Lee Camp in the Blues’ goal.  There is nothing wrong with the R’s battling qualities and they have been scoring plenty of goals of late, but they surrendered the lead and went down to two late goals at Ashton Gate midweek.  Watford returned to winning ways at the expense of Everton last time and I just feel the Hornets additional quality will prevail in an exciting, full-blooded tie.  Michael’s prediction: Queens Park Rangers 1 – 2 Watford  Brighton vs Derby County  Promotion remains Derby County’s primary objective and they have not reached the quarterfinal of the competition since 1999 losing four times at this 5th Round stage in the meantime.  The Seagulls have never lost to the Rams in their five previous encounters in all competitions and I feel it will be the hosts who make it through to the last eight even though Chris Hughton’s side have yet to win at the Amex in 2019.  Michael’s prediction: Brighton 2 – 0 Derby County  AFC Wimbledon vs Millwall  Both sides had famous wins against Premier League opposition in the previous round with West Ham and Everton on the end of receiving end of the FA Cup shocks.  The Dons were a non-League outfit the only other time the sides have met in the Cup (2010) and they have certainly come a long way in the interim period, although they remain marooned at the foot of the League One table despite a much-needed win at Walsall midweek.  I expect the Lions to take the game into extra time.  Michael’s prediction: AFC Wimbledom 1 – 1 Millwall  Newport County vs Manchester City  City have won their two FA Cup ties by an aggregate score of 12-0 so far and I expect the Premier League champions to continue their recent goal-fest at the expense of the Exiles who lost at home to MK Dons midweek.  The hosts Rodney Parade pitch may not be up to Premier League standard and it might take the Premier League champions longer than is the recent norm of late to find the back of the net, but when they do I expect them to run out emphatic winners.  Michael’s prediction: Newport County 0 – 5 Manchester City  Bristol City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers  Wolves have lost just two of their 18 games against Bristol City in all competitions, but the Robins have won their last nine games and are unbeaten in fifteen and will certainly not be lacking in confidence in what promises to be one of the ties of the round.  Wolves were not at their best against Newcastle on Monday, but they are a qual

Paul Pogba reacted angrily in Manchester United dressing room after red card against Paris Saint-Ger

Paul Pogba reacted angrily in the dressing room after his red card against Paris Saint-Germain and issued an apology to his teammates, according to reports.  Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suffered his first defeat since taking charge of United as PSG sealed a 2-0 win in the first leg of their last-16 tie at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.  But United’s misery was compounded in the final stages of the game when Pogba was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Dani Alves.  The France international, who has been a crucial part of United’s midfield during Solskjaer’s reign, will now miss the return leg in Paris.  According to The Sun, Pogba was furious with himself and took out his frustration on his locker once he had got inside United’s dressing room.  ‘Pogba was distraught and he apologised to all of his team-mates,’ a source at United told The Sun.  ‘He felt as if he had let them down and he is now gutted to be missing the second leg.  ‘He banged his locker in anger several times.’

What Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Man Utd squad in furious rant after PSG defeat

Manchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave his side the hairdryer treatment after their 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and accused the team of playing as if it was a ‘one-legged’ tie.  Goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe in the second half at Old Trafford put PSG in full control of the tie and they’re now overwhelming favourites to reach the last-8 of the Champions League.  The defeat was Solskjaer’s first as United boss and brought to an end the side’s 11-match unbeaten run, where they’d won 10 times.  The Norwegian has restored confidence at Old Trafford with his infectious personality and attentive management style but he gave his squad the hairdryer treatment on Tuesday, according to the Sun.  Solskjaer was said to be ‘furious’ and accused his side of lacking patience, forgetting that the game at Old Trafford was only one half of the tie.  The Norwegian was angry that United kept giving away needless free-kicks that disrupted the flow of the game and allowed PSG to play the match at their own pace.  Solskjaer was relatively content with United’s first half performance but knew the first goal would be vital and was disappointed at the marking for Kimpembe’s opener.  The squad were said to be devastated after the game, with Paul Pogba – who was sent off for two bookable offences – apologising to his team-mates for letting them down.  After tearing into his side, Solskjaer set about reminding them that there is still another leg to go and he insists the tie is not over.

Arsenal make contact over move to beat Manchester United to £66m transfer | CaughtOffside

Arsenal are reportedly the latest club to be showing an interest in the transfer of Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, along with the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. The Croatia international’s Barca future seems to be in some doubt at the moment and Diario Gol claim the player has an asking price of around £66million. That would be pretty pricey for Arsenal, but it could be well worth the investment for them as they prepare to lose Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer to Juventus in the summer. The Gunners aren’t exactly blessed with much more midfield talent, with players like Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny looking clearly not good enough, while arguably their two best players in that area of the pitch – Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi – are relatively young and inexperienced. Rakitic is also mentioned as being linked with Man Utd in Diario Gol’s report, and he could serve an important role there too due to the decline of ageing star Nemanja Matic and lack of impact made by summer signing Fred. Ivan Rakitic is a reported transfer target for Arsenal  It will be interesting to see if Rakitic does make his way to the Premier League this summer as Diario Gol’s reported asking price of £66m that Barcelona are asking for him looks pretty tempting for such a quality, experienced player.

What Pogba said to Man Utd teammates in dressing room after PSG red card

Paul Pogba apologised to his Manchester United teammates after his dismissal against PSG.   The Frenchman saw red late on in the 2-0 Champions League defeat at Old Trafford for a rash challenge on Dani Alves.  Pogba appeared stunned when he was dismissed by referee Daniele Orsato before making his way down the tunnel.  Pogba is said to have been furious with himself and lashed out and thumped his locker in the United dressing room.   The Sun reports he then apologised to his teammates for his sending off after leaving them with a mountain to climb in the second leg in Paris.  Pogba will now sit out the return on March 6 with United trailing 2-0.  Presnel Kimpembe opened the scoring for the French champions before Kylian Mbappe fired home a second.  The defeat was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first since taking interim charge at Old Trafford.  Pogba has been rejuvenated under the Norwegian and it remains to be seen how United's players will react to the defeat.   They return to action in the FA Cup against Chelsea on Monday.

PSG star aims major SWIPE at Manchester United players after Champions League win

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Julian Draxler aimed something of a dig at Manchester United’s players after their 2-0 Champions League win at Old Trafford. The Germany international spoke after the game and admitted he and his team-mates were glad that Paul Pogba got sent off and would miss the second leg. It wasn’t the best night for Pogba as he saw red late on, but Draxler feels the France international is United’s best player by some way. So much so that he says it’s already good news for PSG that he won’t be playing in their next meeting, suggesting he doesn’t particularly rate the ability of the rest of this Man Utd squad to get a result. ‘For me Paul is the best player of Manchester United,’ Draxler told the Guardian. Paul Pogba will miss Manchester United’s trip to PSG  ‘A very important player for the team and you could see he is fantastic. ‘That is why we are very happy he will not play the second leg.’ This was the first time United lost a home game in Europe by more than one goal, and it certainly gives Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side a mountain to climb when they travel to the Parc des Princes.
