Seattle Seahawks vs. New England Patriots | Week 2 Recap, Reaction & Analysis | NFL 2020 In what was a wonderfully entertaining matchup that came down to the very last play of the game Russell Wilson and Cam Newton put on a clinic orchestrating scoring drive after scoring drive in a shootout at CenturyLink Field. The Seahawks featured a balanced offensive attack averaging over five yards per rush, puncutuated by five passing touchdowns from the league's current front-runner for MVP to five different receivers. Through two contests Russell Wilson has thrown nine touchdowns and just 11 incompletions. Cam Newton continued to demonstrate that he is healthy and among the best quarterbacks in the NFL with a strong performance as well. Newton did not have the benefit of a complementary running game but he put New England in a position to win on the final play of the game on the strength of nearly 400 yards passing and a pair of rushing TDs. This game also featured an exciting matchup along the perimeter between D.K. Metcalf and Stephon Gilmore with Metcalf getting the better of the league's top corner on a beautiful 54-yard touchdown strike from Wilson. The Patriots also had an impressive individual performance by a wide receiver as the Seahawks had no answer for Julian Edelman who caught 8 of 11 targets for 179 yards, a single game high for Edelman. While both defenses looked over-matched, a pair of safeties did flash including the wholly underrated Devin McCourty who had a pick six early in the first quarter putting the tip drill into practice as a perfectly placed passed bounced off the hands of Greg Olsen; and Jamal Adams who led Seattle in tackles (10) and was the only defender to sack and harass Newton. As previously mentioned this game came down to one final play and unfortunately for Cam and the Patriots, Newton was stopped at the goal-line (excellent play by Seattle's L.J. Collier) before scoring a third rushing TD ending an exciting back-and-forth contest.
