This historical international dual match in weightlifting between New Zealand and Finland was organized on 24th of May 2008 in Rovaniemi, Finland by the local weightlifting club Ounasvaaran Atleetti Klubi. These two tiny countries are situated on the opposite of the world, Finland in Scandinavia (North Europe) and New Zealand in the Oceania, close to Australia. How was it possible for these countries to create the relationship in the weightlifting sport which leaded to this kind of rare and unique international dual match between these two countries? The explanation was that the Weightlifting Federation of New Zealand had hired a coach from Finland to be working as the head coach in New Zealand. This head coach organized many training camps in Rovaniemi, Finland, during 2008-2010 for the national team lifters of NZL.
