Pistons & Celtics Engage in One of the Ugliest Half Quarters in NBA History (0/12 FG, 8 TO, 3 Pts)

May 10, 2002 - Midway through Game 3 of their Eastern Conference semi-final series, the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics engaged in an extended stalemate for the better part of the third quarter. Open shots clanked, easy passes air mailed, and other mindless offensive decisions culminated in nearly six consecutive minutes of NBA playoff basketball without a made field goal. Corliss Williamson finally broke the seal by connecting on a layup with 6:13 remaining in the period. Following Williamson's bucket, the floodgates opened, with the Pistons ultimately outscoring the Celtics 15-11 in the quarter. Both teams shot under 28 percent in the frame and committed a combined 13 turnovers (Boston accounting for nine). Boston rallied in the fourth, outscoring the Pistons 18-16 and slipping away with a 66-64 victory, taking a 2-1 series lead in the process. Paul Pierce and Jerry Stackhouse shared high scoring honors with 19 points. They shot a combined 14-of-42 from the field (33.3 percent).
