It has now been eight hours since United conceded a goal at Old Trafford, a run that has encompassed six games from the final half an hour of their Europa League game against Real Sociedad to the end of their win over West Ham on Sunday. United have now registered five consecutive clean sheets at Old Trafford, against Newcastle, Tottenham and West Ham in the Premier League, and against Omonia and Sheriff in the Europa League. If the horror shows against City and Brentford are removed from the record, United have conceded just 6 goals in 10 Premier League games this season. Manchester United had a long period where they couldn't find a solid duo for the centre back position with the last duo who played week in week out could have possibly been Vidic and Ferdinand. With Martinez coming in he has clearly made that left side of the two his and so had Varane on the right side before his injury. In the big games this season for United against Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and partly against Everton and Leicester, the Red Devils have had to stay compact and be resilient in defending. Ten Hag has setup United against these teams by keeping the midfield and defence compact in the middle of the pitch and forcing the opposition to go out wide and apart from the City game this has worked. The tactical change from the other deploying two midfielders in Casemiro and Eriksen when having to defend sit as two 6s they are compact with Varane and Martinez to stop the opposition striker having time on the ball. The fullbacks tuck in narrowly to the defence to make the attacking central areas more crowded and the frontline of the attack are sitting in a mid-defensive block. United came to United with a lot of pressure & promise, a player who was labelled by Jose Mourinho as “In his age group, he is the best full-back in Europe and we all believe he has a bright future ahead of him at Manchester United.” This was a lot of pressure on Dalot not having played much senior football and then making a move to United many people thought Jose would have been joking but with the loan spell at AC Milan he came back and didn't look so much like a new player but he was definitely better than before his loan. The season Dalot is having at the moment has been his best season to date, he looks very sharp in his defending especially on 1v1 however, going forward, he always had the qualities he just needed to fix on it in training which looks like he has done, Ten Hag asking him to play as an inverted full-back took a couple of games to get used to but you can now see the rewards the team are getting when he comes into midfield by adding that extra man. Diogo Dalot is the only player in the Premier League this season with: ◉ 15+ interceptions ◉ 15+ aerial duels won ◉ 15+ tackles made ◉ 15+ open-play chances created. Dalot has made the most tackles in the final third with 20 which is more than any other United player this season. Dalot has played the third most this season so far with 1,075 minute with only De Gea and Bruno Fernandes playing more minutes.
