Athletes from Denmark, Italy, Switzerland and Portugal combine for Gold in Triathlon Mixed Relay

The quartet of Sif Bendix Madsen, Alessio Crociani, Anja Weber and Alexandre Montez joined forces to strike Gold in the Triathlon Mixed Relay at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018. Denmark’s Bendix Madsen gave Team Europe 1 a great start, handing over to Italian Crociani with a lead of 19 seconds. Crociani was overtaken on the second leg by men’s individual champion Dylan McCullough of New Zealand for Oceania 1. Crociani was 20 seconds down when he handed over to Weber. But the Swiss athlete clawed all that time back and when she handed over Portugal’s Montez, Europe 1 and Oceania 1 were neck and neck. Montez powered away from Australia’s Joshua Ferris to take gold for Europe 1 in a combined time of 1hr 26min 12secs – 20 seconds clear of Oceania 1.
