It's been an interesting week for Atlanta United, to say the least. Days after Josef Martinez was sent by Gabriel Heinze to train on his own, and less than 24 hours following the club's 1-0 loss to the New England Revolution, Heinze was fired—and the details were a lot spicier than we figured. While Atlanta seek a new, permanent coach, it's Rob Valentino that will lead the charge, with the Five Stripes set to host the defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew on Saturday after a midweek match at FC Cincinnati. Sydney Hunte (https://www.twitter.com/shwrites) is joined by Jordan Angeli (https://www.twitter.com/jordangeli) from Bally Sports to help dive into the Crew's season thus far. -- #FiveStripesTonight is Dirty South Soccer's LIVE, weekly, interactive show talking all things Atlanta United! For Five Stripe Final's exclusive interview episodes: www.patreon.com/fivestripefinal For Atlanta United coverage: www.dirtysouthsoccer.com Atlanta United extended their scoreless streak to three matches with their 3-0 loss at the Chicago Fire on Saturday night. The result means that the Five Stripes haven’t won in their last six MLS matches and seem to be getting worse both performance wise and through losing players to injury and international duty. With the light at the end of the tunnel yet begin to peek out and nothing really new to talk about as far as on-field things go, it’s time to look ahead to what the team could feasibly do in the transfer window to help themselves. The MLS transfer window opens on July 7 and it’s as clear as day that Atlanta United need to do something to improve their squad. Whether that’s get rid of players, bring players in, or preferably both, something needs to happen to turn this team’s fortunes around.
Josef Martinez’s late penalty cancelled out Raul Ruidiaz’s 6th minute header to rescue a point for Atlanta United at Lumen Field on Sunday. The result ended the Sounders’ four-game win streak and moves Atlanta into fifth in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta United's results in preseason have been fine, but anyone who's watched the matches against Leones Negros or Birmingham Legion knows the team has struggled. Is it the tactics?
