#USA USA Mens Basketball Team Wins Gold the fourth Olympics in a row

Team USA avenged its early Olympic loss to France by beating the French men's basketball team for the gold medal on Saturday in the Japanese city of Saitama. It was the 100th medal won by Team USA at the Tokyo 2020 Games, and the country's 32nd gold. Kevin Durant of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets led the way for the US, scoring 29 points. It is his third Olympic gold medal, tying him with American Carmelo Anthony for the record in the men's tournament. The Americans have now won men's basketball gold in every Olympics since Beijing 2008. The US men's basketball team lost once during these Olympics, against France in the Americans' first pool game. Team USA didn't lose again. After the game, Durant said on winning his third gold medal, "This one feels good because we went through a lot." "We had a lot of first-time guys on the team, new experience for everyone on the team, Covid, the kind of bubble we were in, no fans, no one expecting us to lose," he said. "To fight through this adversity against a great team like these guys ... to come together so fast -- it was beautiful to see, it was beautiful to be a part of." Lavar Ball wrong or right you have to appreciate how he raised his Son’s

The Ball family patriarch was in attendance for today’s Summer League game between the Portland Trail Blazers and Charlotte Hornets to watch his two youngest sons, LaMelo and LiAngelo play. And as usual, LaVar made sure to rub his sons’ success in everyone’s face via his choice of headwear. Cameras that panned to LaVar sitting in the stands caught the man wearing a hat that said “I Told You So!” in big, bold letters. Given that LaMelo is coming off Rookie of the Year honors while Lonzo is on the verge of a massive free agent contract, he’s earned the right to brag. But unlike many previous times he’s bragged about his progeny, this time people are giving him his due. The image of the hat has quickly gone viral, garnering thousands of likes, retweets and comments in less than an hour.

Have the Lakers giving Lebron James to much authority I don't thing he wins another chip

Russell Westbrook was a Lakers fan from childhood, and he skipped school to attend their championship parades. After he became close friends with Kobe Bryant, they spoke about the responsibility and honor of playing for this decorated franchise. Yet even after Westbrook became an NBA superstar with the autonomy now available to basketball’s best players, he figured the timing would never be right to suit up for his beloved hometown team — let alone alongside two fellow superstars with a real chance to win his first championship. “Some of these dreams don’t come true for people like myself,” Westbrook said. After spending the last half-decade racking up spectacular numbers for teams with little chance of major success, Westbrook is joining the Lakers for his 14th NBA season. Los Angeles general manager Rob Pelinka pulled off a spectacular trade to team Westbrook with LeBron James and Anthony Davis on a reconfigured Lakers roster designed to win rings now. When it came together over the past week, the 32-year-old Westbrook said he repeatedly found himself at a loss for words. His broad smile said plenty when he held up his gold No. 0 jersey Tuesday alongside his parents and brother. “Being from LA, you always wish that you could play for your home team,” Westbrook said. “That’s definitely something that always circled around in my mind. Maybe one day? But I always would come back and be like, ‘Ah, that probably won’t happen.’ I just had to wait and see. But now that we’re here, I’m going to take full advantage of it.” The Lakers believe they can take full advantage of both James and Westbrook, a pairing that seems potentially difficult. Westbrook famously is among the most ball-dominant players of his generation, while James has become an exceptional offensive initiator and point guard alongside his innumerable other skills.

Team USA Women's Basketball Secures 7th Straight Gold Medal, Defeating Japan

The U.S. women’s basketball team won its seventh straight gold medal on Saturday night, matching a record set by the U.S. men between 1936 and 1968. The final score over Japan was 90-75. In winning a silver in its home Olympics, Japan takes home its first-ever medal in women’s basketball. Brittney Griner took over the game much the way Kevin Durant did for the U.S. men on Friday night. She had 30 points on 14-of-18 shooting. A’ja Wilson, winning a gold medal on her 25th birthday, added 19 points, while Breanna Stewart had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. “Unreal” was how Griner summed up her Olympic journey after the game. Maki Takaka led Japan with 17 points. Naka Motohashi had 16 points and four 3-pointers in the first half. Japan kept it close with its 3-point shooting and fast pace until late in the second quarter. Japan had lost to the U.S. by 17 points in the preliminary round and advanced to the gold medal round after routing France, 97-71, in the semifinals. Even on a team with many Olympic veterans, six of the players were not alive the last time the U.S. didn’t win gold, when they took home bronze from Barcelona in 1992. Meanwhile, Team USA’s most experienced players, Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi, made history by becoming the first Olympic basketball players – male or female – to win five gold medals.

LiAngelo Ball Summer League comes off the Bench and drains his first NBA 3

LiAngelo Ball, the middle brother of Lonzo and LaMelo, on Friday expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to play with the Charlotte Hornets in the Las Vegas Summer League. Ball was among the players named to the Hornets’ roster for their upcoming stint in Las Vegas, which will begin on Sunday versus the Portland Trail Blazers. He has been with the team this week participating in practice ahead of the start of summer league. The 22-year-old last appeared with the Detroit Pistons during training camp last season. He was eventually waived and did not play elsewhere prior to joining the Hornets last week. Ball said he is not taking the opportunity with Charlotte for granted.
