Fangio had great success in his time with the Bears which led him to being hired as the head coach for the Denver Broncos. That eventually spawned Brandon Staley, who worked as a linebackers coach with Fangio in both Chicago and Denver. He then joined Sean McVay in Los Angeles as the Rams’ defensive coordinator and is now the Chargers’ head coach. The Fangio and Staley influence doesn’t stop there. The Green Bay Packers hired Joe Barry who was the linebackers coach with the Rams under Staley and the Bears have promoted Sean Desai who spent four seasons with Fangio before he left for Denver. In fact, the Rams didn’t run a single boot action with the Sail concept attached to it in the entire game. That concept is one of their most used bread and butter plays. The Rams run game was back in full effect for their Wild Card matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. McVay used his outside zone scheme with Andrew Whitworth back in the lineup and the Seattle defense had no answer for it. The offensive line worked in unison to open up running lanes for Cam Akers and the rest of the Rams running backs. LA has figured out a formula: run the ball and play good defense. If they keep doing those two things, they can beat anybody in the playoffs in any weather and in any location.
