FSU Softball vs South Alabama 2018 Game 1

Warren Has Record Night As Noles Split Doubleheader MOBILE, Ala. — Florida State senior Jessie Warren continued to collect school and conference records on Wednesday night as the third baseman set the FSU career RBI record, as well as the ACC career home run record as the No. 9 Seminoles (9-3) split the doubleheader with South Alabama (6-5) at Jaguar Field. Warren drove in the only run in FSU’s 3-1 defeat in game one to set the school RBI record and her first-inning home run in game two’s 14-1 victory tied UNC’s Kristen Brown for the ACC career home run mark with 66. Warren added a grand slam in the second inning to take sole possession of the ACC record. She finished the doubleheader with 67 career home runs and 222 career RBI. “Tough way to get a split, but tip your hat to Devin Brown, she kept our hitters off balance all game in the first one,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “Also, what a special night for Jessie. She is so fun to watch and puts in a lot of work and truly loves and understands the game. She continues to get smarter with how teams are pitching her and how she wants to attack different situations. I doubt she even knew she was approaching these records.” Game 1: South Alabama 3, No. 9 Florida State 1 The first hit of the game from either team came in the bottom of the third on a leadoff single by Lyric Cabral. The inning continued with a walk and the Jaguars loaded the bases after an FSU fielding error. Kaleigh Todd gave South Alabama a 2-0 lead with a single to center. The runs snapped streaks of FSU starting pitcher Kylee Hanson of 24.0 innings without giving up an earned run and 11.0 consecutive scoreless innings. South Alabama added another run in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Abby Krzywiecki for a 3-0 lead. Hanson (5-1) was replaced entering the sixth inning, ending her start with 5.0 innings pitched and allowing three runs on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Cassidy Davis pitched the final inning, struck out the first batter she faced and retired the next two on a fly out and ground out. The Seminoles threatened in the seventh, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate, but could not get the key hit to bring them all in to extend the game. Davis led off the inning, reached on a Jaguar throwing error and was pinch-run for at first base by Deja Bush. Morgan Klaevemann put down a bunt single and Cali Harrod followed with a walk to load the bases with one out. Warren hit a high chopper over the third baseman to score Bush and the ball got away from the South Alabama left fielder. Klaevemann saw an opportunity to score, but got in a run down between third and home for out number two, and a strikeout ended the game. http://seminoles.com/warren-has-record-night-as-noles-split-doubleheader/ Stats pdf: http://seminolesweb-8b76.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/South-Ala-3_FSU-1-Game-1.pdf

1993 FSU Football vs florida Highlights

25 years ago today, FSU continued its 1993 national championship campaign against the #7 florida gators in Gainesville, FL. Florida State concluded an 11-1 regular season by defeating arch-rival florida for the sixth time in seven years, 33-21 at Florida Field. The victory came before a state record 85,507 fans and ended the gators' 23 game winning streak at "the Swamp" & the first game Steve Spurrier lost at home since taking over for the orange & blue. Charlie Ward led the Tribe offensive assault and put his signature on the Heisman Trophy by piling up 475 yards of total offense. The senior All-American completed an FSU record 38 passes in 53 attempts for 446 yards and four touchdowns. He finished his career with 19 FSU passing and total offense records. With momentum on the gators' side and the florida crowd deafening, Ward hooked up with his roommate for the play of the game. After his first two passes were batted down, Ward faced third and 10 from his own 21. On the play action fake, Ward eluded a pair of defenders as he rolled to his left, then lofted a soft toss toward Warrick Dunn on the left sideline. The freshman caught the ball in stride, picked up a key block from Vanover and raced down the sidelines for a 79 yard score and a 33-21 FSU lead. The florida State defense returned to its early season form, sacking gator quarterbacks six times and stuffing the florida rushing game. The gators were held to minus 33 yards on the ground, an FSU record, and All-America running back Errict Rhett was limited to just seven yards on seven carries.
