Day two of the 2018 #SunBeltOTF Championships came to a close on Saturday with the running of the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. South Alabama continues to lead the women's team race, adding 33 points on Saturday for a two-day total of 84. Texas State surged in front on the men's side as they lead after Saturday's events with 52 points. Saturday saw one record fall and a fantastic race in the men's 100-meter prelims. USA's Emile Berge successfully defended her heptathlon title with a two-day total of 5,632 points. That total reset the six-year old Sun Belt record held by USA's Lindsay Schwartz. Berge tallied 2,241 points on Saturday morning to add to her 3,391 points totaled on Friday. Troy's Riley Schwietz was the runner-up just behind Berge. The much anticipated men's 100-meters did not disappoint as A-State's Jaylen Bacon looks primed to run a fast time on Sunday. Bacon, running in the third heat on Saturday, easily qualified for Sunday's final with an NCAA leading 9.99. His time was three-tenths of a second faster than the next fastest time. It was the second time Bacon has run sub-ten seconds in the event. Texas State's T'Mond Johnson moved into the top ten in the NCAA in the men's shot put with a new PR of 19.79m (64'11.25"), just one foot off of the all-time Sun Belt record. Johnson moved into No. 2 all-time in Sun Belt history earlier this year before Saturday's result. Little Rock's Shanieke Watson, a multiple Athlete of the Week winner in 2018, claimed the title in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Watson's time of 10:43.08 was ten seconds faster than runner-up Kate Butler of Appalachian State. UTA's Justin Domangue won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, the final event of the night on Saturday, with a time of 9:14.15.
South Alabama junior right-handed pitcher Ryley Harrison spun a one-high shutout while walking two and striking out nine, as the Jaguars scored a season-high 13 runs on 11 hits to reach the semifinals for the second time in three seasons.
