The Boston Celtics have been one of the hottest teams in the league this season and have also been the best defensive team in the entire NBA. Robert Williams has been a huge piece of the Celtics’ system. While looking like a lock for All-Defensive team honors, the Time Lord has been averaging career-highs of 10.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game, while also shooting nearly 74 percent from the field. But how does the Time Lord’s injury affect the Boston Celtics’ NBA title chances? Per latest reports, Robert Williams is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after surgery to repair his torn meniscus. As of late, the narrative about Celtics star duo Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown being unable to coexist have been shut down. Both Tatum and Brown have played great during the Celtics’ recent surge. Jayson Tatum has been playing like an MVP candidate. Tatum had just recorded his 4th career 50-point game after dropping 50 points in a win against the Brooklyn Nets. Jaylen Brown also scored a career-high 50 points in a win against the Orlando Magic. Robert Williams also recorded his first career-triple double with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists against the Phoenix Suns. The Celtics have made great moves during the trade deadline as well. Boston looks like the winner of the Derrick White trade after they sent Romeo Langford and Josh Richardson to the Spurs. Derrick White is now playing really well alongside Marcus Smart in the Celtics backcourt. The Celtics also traded for Daniel Theis by sending Dennis Schroder to the Rockets. With all these moves, it looks like the Celtics will have options to at least power through Robert Williams’ injury. Al Horford, Grant Williams, and Daniel Theis will be the frontcourt options for Coach Ime Udoka. While it is unlikely that they can replicate the TIme Lord’s shot blocking and rim-running ability, all of Horford, Grant Williams, and Daniel Theis can become pick and pop threats.
