Highlights: AHL Regular season game San Diego Gulls vs Ontario Reign February 10, 2021 GAME RECAP STATS | GAMEDAY HUB Keegan Lowe capped off yet another come-from-behind victory - the team's third straight to open the season - scoring with five seconds remaining in overtime to defeat the rival Ontario Reign, 2-1, tonight at FivePoint Arena in Irvine, CA. The defenseman's first goal for San Diego proved decisive, as he pounced on a bouncing puck at the top of the hashmarks late in regulation and fired a shot past a sliding Matthew Villata. Josh Mahura also scored for San Diego, who opened a season with three straight wins for just the second time in team history, joining the inaugural 2015-16 Gulls. Lukas Dostal delivered another stellar performance, turning aside 40 shots for his third consecutive victory. Mahura netted the equalizer, scoring on a breakaway chance at 9:01 of the final frame. At the end of a power play, Ontario carelessly flipped a puck to the point, where it careened past their Reign and into the neutral zone. Mahura, fresh out of the box, picked up the puck and moved in alone on Villata. His quick wrist shot whizzed by the Reign netminder, giving San Diego's defenseman his first goal of the season. The goal came after the Gulls swung momentum in their favor on the penalty kill, erasing three straight Ontario chances over the first 10 minutes of the period. The biggest kill came with San Diego down two skaters at 4:37 of the third period. Mahura played a key role, earning stick taps from his teammates as he blocked two quality scoring chances. Antoine Morand just barely missed tying the game earlier in the final frame, striking iron on a shorthanded breakaway chance. Brett Sutter opened the scoring, snapping a shorthanded goal by Lukas Dostal less than two minutes into the middle frame. Ontario started a rush from their own end, with the Reign captain carrying the puck the length of the ice. He aimed his shot over the shoulder of Dostal, who couldn't get his shoulder up to make the save.
