Tucupita Marcano Hits First Grand Slam in Win | Rangers vs. Pirates (5/22/23)
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Texas Rangers 6-4 at PNC Park on May 22, 2023. Andrew McCutchen kicked off the night by hitting his 1500th hit as a Pirate. The Bucs got on the board first and the Rangers answered in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 1, but the Pirates broke out in the seventh. Carlos Santana singled and Bryan Reynolds scored to give the Bucs a 2-1 lead. Next up, a Tucupita Marcano grand slam extended their lead to 6-1 which brought Jack Suwinski, Santana, and Ke’Bryan Hayes all home. On the mound, Luis Ortiz had a career-high 7 2/3 innings pitched and earned his first major league win. He registered four strikeouts, allowing five hits and two runs on 93 pitches.
