I recall getting a lot of criticism for my support of Lamichael Fanning's suplex tackle in the Alabama-Missouri game. Fanning was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play, the television announcers speculated that Fanning would be disciplined by the SEC, and Alabama head coach Nick Saban even insisted that Fanning write a letter of apology to the Missouri head coach and the player tackled on the play. Then today there was a nearly identical play made in the Georgia-Georgia Tech game, as seen in the second half of this clip. In this instance; no flag, no criticism from the announcers, and I am betting there won't be any league investigations or letters of apology written regarding this play either. I challenge anybody to tell me the difference between the tackles on these two plays. So why is there such a big difference in the reactions to the tackles on these two plays. This just proves my point. Aggressive tackles do happen a lot more than people realize in the game of football, most often it does not result in a penalty, and this is just an example of the violence of the sport of football and not an unnecessarily rough play. So this one is for all you critics out there. NOTICE: I claim no ownership of this footage. No Copyright Infringement Intended.
