https://geauxcolonels.com/sports/mens-basketball THIBODAUX, La. -- With a potential double-bye in the Southland Conference Tournament on the line, the Nicholls State University men's basketball program (20-10, 14-5 SLC) closes out regular season play with a revenge opportunity against in-state opponent McNeese (14-15, 9-9 SLC), tipoff versus the Cowboys set for 7 p.m. at Stopher Gym in the the team's home finale. Earlier this year at Lake Charles, the hosting Cowboys edged past a red-hot Red & Gray squad in a back-and-forth overtime contest, securing a 80-74 victory at the H&HP Complex to end a three-game Colonel win streak. Individually, redshirt junior Andre Jones orchestrated an elite offensive performance, finishing with a career-best 25 points as he carried Nicholls throughout the matchup; meanwhile, both redshirt senior Dexter McClanahan (14 pts) and sophomore Warith Alatishe (13 pts) posted positive contributions, combining for 27 points and 11 boards. The team boasts five seniors: G D'Angelo Hunter, G Tom Clement, G/F Brandon Moore Jr., G Dexter McClanahan & F Elvis Harvey Jr. This year's roster is highlighted by five newcomers, as redshirt senior G D'Angelo Hunter (West Virginia), redshirt junior G Andre Jones (Arkansas-Little Rock) & redshirt senior G Dexter McClanahan (Savannah State) all became eligible following transfers from fellow collegiate programs while sophomore G Lorenzo McGhee (Columbia State CC) climbed aboard via a JUCO program & freshman G Tyrease Terrell signed on directly from high school. On the bench, senior F Jaylen Fornes (UNC-Wilmington), redshirt sophomore F Najee Garvin (Charlotte) & redshirt sophomore G Isaac Johnson (Western Illinois) will sit out due to NCAA Transfer Restrictions. This season's depth chart features four players from across the state of Louisiana, three from Georgia, a pair from Texas and one from each of the following: Kentucky, North Carolina, Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina & Minnesota. The Colonels were projected to finish 11th in the Southland Conference, per the league's preseason poll.
