Zlatan Ibrahimović was at the heart of Sweden's best moves in the first half and it was no surprise to see him involved in their opener. It was his clever pass that slipped in Rasmus Elm, who was sent tumbling by goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa, leaving the AC Milan forward free to convert the spot kick. Ivan Rakitić did his best to claw his team back into the game but it was the unfortunate Olsson, who headed past his own 'keeper to draw the side's level. John Guidetti was introduced for the start of the second half for his senior debut but it was a more seasoned hand that made the most impact. Larsson, another sub that was introduced for the start of the second half, netted within 60 seconds. Ibrahimović played in Samuel Holmén and his shot was parried, leaving Larsson with a simple tap in. The AC Milan forward was again instrumental in the third as he threaded a pass through to Larsson, who burst through the Croatia defence to slot home with a composed finished.

The visitors offered little threat despite their man advantage but the late VAR-awarded spot-kick allowed Ronaldo, 35 last week, to make it 35 goals in 35 games for club and country. Juve were knocked off top spot in Serie A at the weekend and their boss Maurizio Sarri would have been frustrated to see his side only manage three tame shots on target in a tepid, scrappy game. But in the last minute, Ronaldo saw his scissor kick blocked by the arm of Davide Calabria, who was looking the other way. Referee Paolo Valeri did not initially award the penalty but pointed to the spot after going over to review the incident on the pitchside monitor. Ronaldo slotted his kick straight down the middle. Before the late drama it was another veteran, 42-year-old Gianluigi Buffon, who had been the game's star performer. The Juve goalkeeper, who first won this trophy in 1999, made good saves from Rebić and Hernandez before a superb one-handed stop pushed a Zlatan Ibrahimović effort into the side-netting. Shortly afterwards Rebić struck to give Milan the advantage, turning in Samu Castillejo's cross after a spell of pressure. Hernandez picked up a second booking when he caught Paulo Dybala with 19 minutes left and Ronaldo - who scored in a 10th straight league game at the weekend - then took advantage of the dubious call to level in front of a new Coppa Italia semi-final record attendance of 72,738.

The high-profile signing from Manchester United announced his arrival in Major League Soccer by lashing home a bouncing ball from way out just six minutes after coming on as a substitute as the Galaxy fought back from 3-0 down. And he then headed home at the death to crown a magnificent derby comeback. LAFC had been in total control thanks to a first-half double from former Arsenal striker Carlos Vela and Daniel Steres' own goal just after the restart. But Sebastian Lletget pulled one back in the 61st minute and, two minutes after the introduction of Ibrahimovic, Chris Pontius struck in the 73rd. The 36-year-old Swede then took centre stage with his spectacular 77th-minute leveller, ripping his shirt off in celebration, before glancing home the winner.

The Coppa Italia runners-up were chosen to play instead of the winners because of the aftermath of the 2006 Serie A match-fixing scandal. As a result, Juventus, the original league winners, were relegated to Serie B and replaced by Inter as champions. Since the Coppa Italia winners were also the newly appointed league champions, the Super Cup spot was given to the runners-up of the Coppa Italia, Roma. The match resulted in a 4–3 win for Inter after extra time. Roma took a 13th-minute lead through Amantino Mancini who nodded in after Zanetti and Toldo failed to clear Panucci's cross. Aquilani added his team's second goal twelve minutes later, sliding past Toldo and into the bottom left-hand corner after a defence-splitting one-two with Francesco Totti. The Giallorossi capitalised on Inter's indecision at the back, Aquilani finishing off a well-worked move to score his second and give the visitors a seemingly unassailable lead. But it wasn't to be. Vieira opened his scoring account for Inter on the stroke of half time to give the Nerazzurri a lifeline. The France captain rose in the box and powered a header from Figo's cross past goalkeeper Doni. Roberto Mancini made two early changes in the second half, bringing on Maicon for Fabio Grosso and Hernan Crespo for Adriano. The Argentine forward obliged with Inter's second goal four minutes later, stealing in at the near post to meet Stankovic's whipped cross and direct his header over the line. Playing with renewed belief, Inter continued to produce chances coming forward and drew level when Vieira slid Ibrahimovic's cross-shot into the roof of the net and lift the roof off the Meazza. Luis Figo completed the comeback in the first period of extra time, finding the top left corner with a well taken free kick to make it a good end to a bad start.
