Play was halted in the 16th minute after supporters in the Hammersmith End at Craven Cottage attracted the attention of the players and referee Peter Bankes. Stewards were seen rushing to the incident, and were swiftly joined by club medical staff to attend to the supporter. Fans used flags to cover the incident from view. The match resumed following a suspension of 37 minutes. Fulham confirmed after the match that the supporter had died. The club said in a statement: “It is with immense sadness that we inform fans of the passing of supporter, Paul Parish. “Paul suffered a cardiac arrest and received treatment in the Hammersmith Stand at this afternoon’s match before being transferred to the hospital.
