(AP) Henry Caruso made the game-saving steal, Matt Hauser matched a career high with 22 points and Santa Clara beat Portland 70-68 on Saturday night. Portland had the ball and was trailing 69-68 with less than five seconds to go when Caruso stepped into the lane and picked off JoJo Walker's pass as Walker tried to drive and dish to Josh McSwiggan. The Pilots fouled Caruso with 1.3 seconds left, he made one of two at the foul line and the Pilots missed a desperation heave at the buzzer. Josip Vrankic scored 14 of his career-high 19 points in the second half to help the Broncos (6-10, 3-1 West Coast Conference) hand the Pilots (6-11, 0-4) their fourth straight loss. Caruso finished with seven points and 10 boards and KJ Feagin chipped in 10 points. McSwiggan had 17 points, Tahirou Diabate added 15 points and 10 boards and Marcus Shaver Jr. scored 13 for Portland. Advertisement Subscribe to Home Delivery and SAVE!

The only thing that was predictable was Arizona did not get their first foul call until 8 minutes in and at 12 had two. (UCLA finished with 8 fouls to Arizona’s 4 with Wilkes with three, Welsh 2, and Holiday 2.) While Holiday and Welsh played well on defense, with Holiday messing with Parker Jackson-Cartwright and Allonzo Trier and Thomas Welsh with six rebounds, the stars were two unexpected players. Gyorgy Goloman was off the charts on most aspects. He made future NBA first round pick Deandre Ayton a jump shooter early, had 2 blocks and 2 steals to go with a nice assist (should be two because he set Alex up with 2 free throws) and four points. GG gave up a couple offense rebounds and dunks but he was +15 for the half. He did all this with no fouls. Alford was looking brilliant by starting GG with Hands over Prince Ali. Speaking of Jaylen Hands, WOW. Hands played some nice defense but...uhm...how do I describe the close of the half? Three times in a row in th...

Leeds united news: grayson raves about saiz display v nottingham forest Former Leeds United manager Simon Grayson lost his mind over Samuel Saiz’s brilliant display in the 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest at Elland Road on Monday afternoon. Saiz, 26, was back in the Leeds starting line-up after suffering a calf injury prior to the festive period and did not waste any time in getting the home fans on their feet with a scintillating display. In the second half, the Spanish player really found the peak of his form. The ex-Huesca man went on a brilliant run from his own half before playing in Kemar Roofe, who should have really put the Yorkshire giants ahead with an effort that thundered off the crossbar. Saiz was again involved when he fed a beautifully weighted ball into Pablo Hernandez in the last 10 minutes, however Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith did well to deny the winger. Sky Sports pundit Grayson, who covered the game on Sky Sports Football on New Year’s Day, was blown away by the tricky playmaker against Nottingham Forest, and dubbed him as being on...

Burnley v huddersfield town: pope’s attention not on england but on clarets spot Pope was third choice at Turf Moor last season and expected to spend the current campaign watching from the bench after Paul Robinson’s retirement bumped him up the pecking order. But he was thrust into centre stage when Tom Heaton injured his shoulder in September and has gone from strength to strength since inheriting the gloves. In 17 Premier League outings he has managed eight clean sheets, producing 60 saves to underpin the Clarets’ unexpected rise to seventh place. This has led to speculation about an England call-up next year, with BBC pundit Robbie Savage among those supporting the notion, but Pope is taking a more cautious view. Given Heaton’s status as Burnley captain and a regular Three Lions squad member over the past two seasons, his return to fitness in the new year could prove an even bigger challenge than catching England manager Gareth Southgate’s eye.“When the time comes, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. It’s not at the moment so we’ll have to wait and see w...
