I am your host Jacques Slade and this is Today in Sneaks. Lets start with a Nike shoe that popped up on the web last night that I had not seen before, the Nike Air Turbulence LS. I honestly don’t recall seeing these before, but it looks like they are in stock at a few places and the best part is that the are pretty cheap by comparison. Nike has been playing around with the materials on the upper and maybe that is why they are starting to pop up on the blogs. Either way, If you want to grab a pair, they are only $110 and some are even on sale down to $80. I’ll include some links below for you to check out. Moving on to Bron Bron, the LeBron 13 is taking a page of the Kyrie 2’s book and it taking on the color scheme of an older Nike Basketball model, the Nike Command Force. These first popped up earlier this week and now the official images are starting to trickle down to the blogs. The shoe stays white for the most part, but Nike updates it with a touch of neon on the outsole, on the tongue branding, and over the Nike Swoosh To accent the neon color, a touch of blue has been added to the eyelets and flywire as well as the insoles and heel pull. Details on the exact drop date have not been revealed, so stay tuned and I’ll get you updated as soon as I can. The Houston Rockets are playoff bound, and if adidas Hoops has their way, you will see James Harden rocking one of these new colorways of the Crazylight Boost 2.5. Based on the red, black, and white color scheme, you can tell these were created to work with the Rocket’s jersey colors. Adidas has provided the bearded buy with both a home and an away version, both of which features harden’s 13 logo. The home colorway, black and white drops on April 29th, while the way colorway in red/black will arrive on May 14 Both pairs will cost you the usual $130. The Air Jordan XXX may have just left its mark as Jordan revealed a new colorway of the shoe that has caught the attention of sneaker Twitter. Revealed this morning, the shoe is being called the “Black Cat” Jordan XXX, and ode to MJ and a nickname he was given by his friends. When this shoe was first spotted, many were calling it Triple Black, but both names really work in my opinion. The part of the shoe that really caught my eye was the toe down, it just looks really nice. As for a release date, expect these to arrive on April 16 and though pricing has not been announced, I expect it to cost the usual $200. Finally, if you happen to live in Europe, you will have the chance to make sneakerheads here in the US jealous when you cop the Air Jordan 10 “Paris”. These are said to actually release this weekend and feature a textured upper that pops between the black and fierce purple colorway. For the outsole, Jumpman mixes translucent panels with purple and creates a pretty unique looking sneaker. For the final touch, a purple 75 is stitched into the side Again, look for these to drop on April 9th. For the question of the video, I want to know are elite shoes really elite? What inspired its design? For this story, we’ll take a look at this shoe, the Air Jordan 11. Design and technology are the key components of a performance sneaker, particularly a basketball sneaker, and with the Jordan 11, you see one of the rare moments when these two intersect and impact the way shoes are made from that moment on. Starting with design of the shoe, Tinker Hatfield, the man who had designed every Jordan since the 3, actually designed the shoe in secret. Nike, at the time, wasn’t sure that Mike would be returning and thought the Jordan line would be over. Despite this, Tinker Hatfield pushed ahead in secret and designed the shoe anyway. One of the key elements of the shoe, the patent leather, changed they way that sneakers were made at the time. Tinker, watching game tape of Michael playing, happened to notice that Mike would roll over the top of his shoes when changing direction, and this slowed him down. Patent leather was stronger and could withstand the force of the change. Often called the mudguard, the patent leather actually served two purposes. Tinker wanted to create something that looked good both on and off the court for Mike. Rumor has it, that MJ wanted something he could wear with a suit, and the patent leather fit the bill. However, patent leather wasn’t the only big technological innovation on the shoe. Before the Air Jordan 11, carbon fiber had never been used in a shoe. Prior to this time, the shank plate on shoes were made with various materials, but Tinker’s vision to make the shoes faster, lighter, and stronger brought him to the lightweight and ridged material. That brings us to the upper. A new nylon ballistic mesh was added that lead up to the padded collar. Called cordura nylon or sometimes cordura mesh, the material is ultra-lightweight and manages to maintains its strength, despite its elasticity. Tinker also included a webbing around the midfoot that adheres to the shape of your foot. It works with your foot to keep you locked in. OC: MJ introd the popular Concord Colorway of the Jordan 11 in the playoffs in 1995 as well as the “Space Jam” colorway, which he also wore in the movie Space Jam. When the shoes finally went on sale later that year, kids were waiting in line to buy them. Tinker has since called the Jordan 11 his favorite design. As for Michael, he feels the same way. The Bulls did go 72-10 that year, and he won the MVP for the Finals, regular season, and the all-star game. Not to mention his fourth NBA championship. Patent leather, cordura nylon, carbon fiber, the design mind of Tinker, and the game of MJ ... It is those things that make the story of the Air Jordan 11 such a cool shoe. No matter the color.
