This excercise is very easy and it will help you control the spin of the golf ball. This is important to know when you want to roll the ball more (top spin) of make it stop faster (backspin). This method will work with your longer clubs as well, for example when you drive, you want te get more distance, so you need topspin. With an iron you want to approach close to the hole, so you want backspin to prevent it from rolling too far.
