After recording his 4th career triple-double with a 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in a recent loss against the Spurs, Josh Giddey became the first teenager to record three straight triple-doubles in the history of the NBA. He also joins the legendary Oscar Robertson as the only players to record three straight-triple doubles as rookies. Also, Josh Giddey joins Luka Doncic and Ben Simmons as the only players over the last 25 years to record at least 4 triple doubles in their rookie season. Prior to his record-setting night against the Spurs, Giddey also scored a career-high in an overtime win against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden as he put up a 28-point, 12-assist, and 11-rebound triple-double. It would be remembered that Giddey also broke LaMelo Ball’s record in early January to become the youngest player in NBA history with a triple double as he put up 17 points, 14 assists, and 13 rebounds in the OKC Thunder’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Giddey is now second in 10-assist games as a rookie next to Lebron James. Josh Giddey has also been named the Western Conference rookie of the month for three straight months now. Josh Giddey’s playmaking has been particularly good as a 19-year old but his scoring and overall shooting have been catching up as well. Josh Giddey has now risen to the no. 3 spot in the Rookie of the Year race just behind Evan Mobley and Scottie Barnes just before the All-Star weekend. The Australian rookie has shined during the absence of OKC Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, as Giddey has averaged 16.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 7.2 assists within that time span. Giddey looks like a future star, but can he thrive alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Lu Dort, Aleksej Pokusevski, Darius Bazley, Tre Mann, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and the rest of the OKC Thunder’s young core moving forward? OKC Thunder GM Sam Presti has definitely started the rebuild right by drafting Giddey 6th overall in the 2021 draft.
