Welsh Fire vs London Spirit, 32nd Match Higlight

London Spirit finish last, with just the one win in 8 games. They were rather good with the bat today, but their bowling left a lot to be desired with the brawn of Glenn Phillips towering over them, that finished the game very early. The Fire did lose a few wickets in the middle overs, courtesy Wheal and Cullen, but eventually, Cobb and Qais Ahmed kept their cool to land a few blows late in the chase, under pressure, to finish off a hapless campaign for the London Spirit.

#CricketHits The best bowling attack of the tournament on paper have ended up as the winners. How apt! And coached by Mahela Jayawardene - who's made Mumbai Indians run amok in the IPL. This final all depended on one man - The Beast, Liam Livingstone - especially with a big score to chase. And he didn't disappoint. Was on course as he set Lord's alight with his hitting but a silly mental mistake cost him his mistake and from then on, it was going to be very tough against a bowling line-up of Tymal Mills, Chris Jordan, George Garton and Jake Lintott with Craig Overton to bowl his hard lengths. Moeen Ali tried but the total was too far and needed too many risks to be taken. Eventually the game meandered to a foregone conclusion and it all seemed to be anti-climactic which even dampened the weekend crowd who filled up The Home of Cricket. Do stay tuned for all the post-match stuff...

#CricketHits Elation in the Invincibles camp. They all get into a huddle and celebrate. Kapp, what a game she had. 26 off 14 under serious pressure with the bat and most importantly, killed the game by taking three wickets with some lovely swing bowling in the first 10 balls of the innings. Farrant recorded the best bowling figures yesterday (4/10), today Kapp betters that to snatch the record with 4/9. Kapp is emotional, while captain Dane van Niekerk has her arms aloft and fist pumps to celebrate. Special mention to her. The Birmingham Phoenix were cruising to victory yesterday in the Eliminator. But van Niekerk called for a timeout, got her girls together and gave a proper pep talk. They came fired up and pulled off an inspiring victory that would give them massive confidence coming into today.

#CricketHits Van Niekerk is absolutely elated. So when the strategic timeout was called, the Phoenix were placed strongly at 58/2, needing just 57 runs off 55 balls. Simple equation ain't it! And they had a solid-looking Amy Jones, who stitched a 43-run stand with Erin Burns too. But Van Niekerk had an animated chat in that huddle. "Give your 100%, don't leave anything out," were the words from her in that chat as Farrant informs now. And Farrant started this all, not with the ball but with a stunning catch running back from mid-off and diving. Burns was back. Then Farrant got the ball in her hands and delivered the knockout blow to the Phoenix. Amy Jones caught at cover off a slower ball. Two in two for the Invincibles and they believed. The panic was evident in the Phoenix set-up. After 70 balls, they could score just 2 runs in the next 10 balls and also lost two key wickets. From nowhere, the Invincibles snatched the upper hand and Farrant, the leading wicket-taker was too good for the lower-order, finishing with 4 wickets. A female fan in the stands put out a fierce fist pump and that tells you how much they believed in their team. Onto Lord's to lock horns with the Brave now.

#CricketHits he captain making light work of this modest total. The Brave made 97 look even lesser. Looks like you needed 150 on that wicket. The openers Stirling and QdK got them off to a flier. The Brave had taken off half of the target by the powerplay. De Lange was lethal with his bowling. Bounced QdK out and then had Davies edging to the keeper. De Lange even clocked 94mph at one stage and delayed the inevitable. The game could have been over much earlier if not for his pacy stuff and he finishes the tournament with 12 wickets. Gregory turned to Rashid early, but Vince took him for 14 runs off 4 balls to kill hopes of a Rockets return.
