Luis Suarez's controversial Barcelona goal leaves goalkeeper needing treatment

Luis Suarez's controversial Barcelona goal leaves goalkeeper needing treatment. Barcelona restored their five point lead at the top of La Liga on Sunday, but their second goal against Leganes has caused controversy. Luis Suarez restored Barca's lead against Leganes, before Lionel Messi scored in stoppage time at the Nou Camp to secure a 3-1 win. But Leganes were upset the Uruguayan's goal stood after goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar was left injured on the floor as Suarez poked the ball home. After Messi's shot forced Cuellar into a full-length save, Suarez pounced to force the ball goalwards. But in the process, he followed through into Cuellar, with his studs making contact with the keeper's arm and knee hitting the stopper's face. Leganes players immediately protested, but referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea allowed the goal to stand after checking replays with VAR. Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde described Suarez's effort as "a clear goal". Valverde was quoted by Marca as saying with regard to the Suarez incident: "I thought it was a goal. "What can I say? Everyone will have their own point of view on it but if the referee gave it, then it is a goal. "With VAR, the controversy still doesn't end; it is a clear goal. "He doesn't touch the goalkeeper, so it was right that it was given." He added: "There will always be controversy and mistakes. You have to accept that errors will happen and that will not end with VAR or a robot referee. "VAR will never be perfect as it is impossible for two players to be in a perfect line so there will always be disagreements. "I think that VAR can eliminate major errors but there's always room for everyone to have their say." Barcelona confirmed on their official website that Dembele had sprained his left ankle during the game. The club said more tests would be done on Monday to find out the extent of the injury, with Valverde saying: "Hopefully he won't be out for long."

Jamie Carragher slams Maurizio Sarri for 'turning Chelsea into Arsenal'. Jamie Carragher has slammed Maurizio Sarri for turning Chelsea into Arsenal in the first half of their Premier League clash with Manchester City. The Blues found themselves 4-0 down in just 25 minutes at the Etihad as Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan ran riot. Chelsea offered nothing in response, and if anything were lucky not to be further behind when referee Mike Dean called time on the frantic first half. As expected both Sky Sports pundits Carragher and Graeme Souness were hugely critical of Chelsea's performance at the break, with the former comparing them to Arsenal of years gone by. "Disgraceful, this is as bad as anything," said the Liverpool legend. "He's [Maurizio Sarri] turned Chelsea into the Arsenal team that used to get battered for the last seven, eight years away from home in big games because they're so weak. "You never say that about Chelsea no matter what has gone on, but they have been weak. We're watching a really weak football team here." Chelsea have it all to do in the second half against the champions, but are very unlikely to get anything from the contest.

Luis Suarez gets new neck tattoo and here's what it means

Luis Suarez gets new neck tattoo - and here's what it means. Luis Suarez has got new ink, and the design has a pretty special meaning to him. The Barcelona star hasn't quite been at his prolific best this season, but he'll be hoping that the new addition to his neck will help him score more goals. Because it is modelled on what he does after he finds the net. The former Liverpool forward has scored nine goals for Barca so far this season, and although he's normally got more than that by this stage of the campaign, he did still manage a hat-trick in the 5-1 trouncing of Real Madrid that will be remembered by Barca fans for decades. And Suarez will now have a permanent reminder of the goals he scored that day on his neck, as well as pretty much every other time he's found the net. Because the new tattoo, below the left half of Suarez's face, simply features two fingers and thumb. And those are the three digits, usually on his right hand, that Suarez kisses individually after every goal. They signify his wife, daughter and son. Nice, huh? The video was released by OTRO.com , a new social network which is creating content with footballers. The likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Dele Alli, Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham have appeared in videos for the social network. Suarez has been struggling with a knee injury of late, but is hopeful of being fit for Barca's Catalan derby away at Espanyol on Saturday.
