2014-08-16 California Dolphins, 26 AT Vega$ Lions, 20 California Dolphins Rally for 26-20 Win at Las Vegas August 16, 2014 By Jay Tando Henderson, NV – The visiting California Dolphins were in a 14-point hole in the 4th Quarter trailing the host Las Vegas Lions 20-6 with 12:15 to play when they rallied with 3 straight scores to pull out the come-from-behind win, 26-20. It was a back-and-forth affair as the the Dolphins got on the board with 9:00 left in the 1st Quarter with a 9 yard TD pass from QB Lance Dibene to WR Christopher Duvall. The XP was blocked and went under the crossbar. It stayed the same score until 4:53 in the 3rd when the Lions struck with a 38-yard TD run. The XP was blockd but a penalty against the Phins gave Las Vegas another chance and they made it to take a 7-6 lead. The Lions would add to that lead with a 100-yard interception return of a California backup QB LaMonta Green pass for a TD with 0:09 left in the 3rd Quarter to go up 13-6. The drop-kick XP was waived off as no good after the ball did not hit the ground first. Things got ugly for the Dolphins with 12:40 to play in the 4th Quarter when they re-inserted QB Lance Dibene and he threw a pick-six that went 60 yards the wrong way to the Endzone and Las Vegas was suddenly on top 20-6 after the XP drop kick was good. But California was not ready to quit. QB Dibene found WR Duvall again – this time it was a 60-yard TD pass with 12:15 to play in the game – and then he found WR Tristian Scott for the 2-point conversion pass to cut the lead to 14-20. The rally continued with a 57-yard fumble return by Dolphins DB Jermel Woods after the Lions had their 53-yard FG attempt blocked. The game was tied at 20 as the XP attempt hit the crossbar. The play of the game would be yet another Dibene-to-Duvall TD pass play – this one covering 70 yards with 3:41 remaining in the game to give the Fish a 26-20 lead. They would go on to grind out the clock and snare the win on the road in the stifling 95 degree dry desert heat. ---- Video by Jay Tando jaytando@hotmail.com Contact Dolphins Owner Andy Cruz for an official copy of this game on DVD: tact77@msn.com This video is the private property of the California Dolphins.
