Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s close-range goal got our Premier League season up and running as we saw off Norwich in front of a packed crowd at Emirates Stadium. With the sun blazing in north London, we came flying out of the blocks, determined to make an instant impact. Aubameyang had our first opportunity as he raced on to a long ball up the left from Kieran Tierney, noticed Tim Krul had hesitated and tried an ambitious long-range effort only to see it fly wide. The Gabon international was soon found by Martin Odegaard with a sumptuous ball over the top, and while he managed to poke the ball past the Norwich keeper this time, Grant Hanley was able to scramble it clear. This was more like it, but slowly the visitors grew into the game, closed the gaps in midfield and frustrated our attacking ambitions. There was still time for Nicolas Pepe to curl a free kick wide and new signing Takehiro Tomiyasu to volley over before the half was out, but it remained deadlocked at the break. We continued to up the ante in the second half, and had a big opportunity to make the breakthrough when Bukayo Saka’s dragged effort deflected into the path of Nicolas Pepe six yards out, but his shot was blocked by Brandon Williams. Finally, just after the hour mark we had the breakthrough when Saka fed Pepe, whose shot was palmed on to the post by Krul. The Ivorian’s follow-up was blocked but fell to Aubameyang two yards out and he made no mistake. The relief inside the ground was palpable. Now we were up and running. Try as we might we just could not kill off the Canaries, with Krul denying Aubameyang his second and then Emile Smith Rowe, but we’d done enough for our first three points of the campaign. #arsenal #aubameyang #tomiyasu Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Emile Smith Rowe, Nikita Parris, Jordan Nobbs, Bukayo Saka, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more. We made the perfect start to our Barclays FA Women’s Super League season on Sunday with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Chelsea. Vivianne Miedema delivered a classy display with a goal and an assist, while Beth Mead scored twice in the second half to secure three valuable. Speaking in his pre-match interview, Jonas Eidevall highlighted his desire to see intensity and aggression from the start - and his team certainly delivered. Pressing from the front, we grabbed control of the game early on and with a stunning though ball, Katie McCabe picked out Vivianne Miedema to open the scoring. Our No 11 charged into the penalty area and evaded er marker with a smart turn, before firing home at the near post with a powerful effort. We pushed on from there too, with Frida Maanum forcing a difficult save from Ann-Katrin Berger and Mana Iwabuchi firing over from close range. The latter should have found the back of the net having already scored three goals in three games the club - and we were duly punished on the stroke of half-time. The visitors wrestled back some control with Ji So-Yun and Pernille Harder seeing plenty of the ball, before Erin Cuthbert found space inside our penalty area and finished into the bottom left corner. But we regained our energy after the restart and with an inch-perfect pass from Miedema, Mead raced through on goal and scored an outrageous effort with her weaker foot, curling into the top right corner from the edge of the area. Our No 9 had been sensational all afternoon and went on to score another, only this time she rounded Berger before dummying past the last defender and passing the ball into an empty goal. It was no less than we deserved for our hard work and resilience. Chelsea would go on to pull one back shortly after with Pernille Harder rising high in the penalty area to head home, but with the pressure mounting in the closing stages, our defence stood strong to secure three valuable points on the opening day of the season. #arsenal #chelsea #miedema #bethmead Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Emile Smith Rowe, Nikita Parris, Hector Bellerin, Jordan Nobbs, Bukayo Saka, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more. We were well beaten by Manchester City in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday on a disappointing afternoon at the Etihad Stadium. We came into the game chasing our first Premier League win of the campaign, and fresh from a 6-0 victory at West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup. Mikel Arteta named a back three, with Sead Kolasinac starting alongside Rob Holding and Calum Chambers as we attempted to stifle the champions. But seven minutes in the hosts took the lead as Gabriel Jesus crossed for Ilkay Gundogan to head home at the far post, and they doubled their advantage not long afterwards when Ferran Torres tapped home inside the area. Martin Odegaard nearly pulled one back when he blocked an Ederson clearance and the ball skidded just wide of the far post, but that was as good as it got in the first half. Granit Xhaka was then shown a straight red card for a tackle on Joao Cancelo, and City added their third before the interval when Jack Grealish crossed for Jesus to score from close range. Rodri added a fourth after the break for the champions, before Torres scored his second of the afternoon to round off an unhappy afternoon for Arteta’s side. #arsenal #premierleague Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Emile Smith Rowe, Nikita Parris, Hector Bellerin, Jordan Nobbs, Bukayo Saka, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more.
