Highlights of Dulwich's 4-2 win over Enfield Town in the semi-final of the 2016/17 Ryman League Premier Division Playoffs. After reaching the playoffs for the third consecutive season, Dulwich faced an Enfield side that had picked up 22 points from their final eight games in the league season. However, the hosts pressed home an early advantage in the tie, as just 47 seconds in, Gavin Tomlin slipped a pass through to Ibra Sekajja to score. After 31 minutes that lead was doubled by Sekajja, as he glanced home a Matt Drage cross. The ex-Crystal Palace man then completed his hattrick just a minute later in spectacular fashion, capitalising on a defensive mistake to chip Nathan McDonald for a goal of the season contender. Enfield brought themselves back into the game before the break, ex-Hamlet midfielder Billy Crook finding the bottom corner via a deflection, but Dulwich were truly in the ascendancy at the interval. Dulwich restored their three-goal advantage in the 65th minute, this time Sekajja turning provider for his strike partner Tomlin to finish. Preston Edwards repelled a stinging Dernell Wynter strike before Harry Ottaway netted a consolation for the Towners, but the Hamlet prevailed and will take on Bognor Regis Town in the final on Bank Holiday Monday, as they bid to move out of the Isthmian League for the first time in their history.
Highlights of Dulwich's 1-1 draw against Leatherhead in the Ryman League Premier Division. For the second time this season the Hamlet would leave it late to salvage a point against the Tanners, with Ibrahim Kargbo's late missile bringing them something from the game. Dulwich had the ball in the net early on, but Ibra Sekajja scored from an offside position. Throughout the first half the hosts had more of the possession, but created half chances at best, and as the game wore on, it seemed like it would be a frustrating evening. Leatherhead then took a lead with 20 minutes remaining, as Matt Drage gave away the ball to Nana Boakye-Yiadom just outside his penalty area, and the substitute had the easy task of slotting past Preston Edwards. Just when it seemed the visitors were going to hold on, a Gavin Tomlin corner was headed into the path of Kargbo, who unleashed an unstoppable volley, and hand his side a goal which moved them up to 4th in the table.
With time running out for the Hamlet as they searched for an equaliser, it seemed like Leatherhead were going to hold on for the win. However, a Gavin Tomlin corner four minutes from time was nodded into the path of Ibrahim Kargbo, and the veteran midfielder unleashed a Exocet of a volley off the crossbar and into the back of the net, and hand Dulwich a point. Dulwich Hamlet 1-1 Leatherhead.
Highlights of Dulwich's 3-0 defeat against Billericay Town in the Ryman League Premier Division. The Hamlet came into the match undefeated in their last eight in the league, whilst The Blues handed debuts to ex-Spurs and Wolves midfielder Jamie O'Hara and club-record signing Jake Robinson. And it would be the visitors who would come flying out of the traps, as just nine minutes in a long ball by Matt Johnson was headed home by Adam Cunnington. That lead was doubled short;y after, as a Johnson long throw was flicked in by defender Joe Ellul. The game was done and dusted after just half an hour, when Robinson stooped low to meet a Byron Lawrence cross. The second half saw Dulwich improve, but the only major talking point was the sending off of Billericay forward Mekhi McLeod following a coming together between him and Ashley Carew. The two sides meet again at New Lodge on Tuesday evening.
Following the postponement of Dulwich Hamlet's game with Billericay Town last month, Dulwich Hamlet TV spoke to right-back Sanchez Ming about his development as a teenager in the Aspire Academy and what he learned from the tutelage of Gavin Rose, Junior Kadi and Kevin James, and also how he has used their teachings in both his senior football career and his work teaching sport to children.
Highlights of Dulwich's 4-1 win over Whitehawk in the Second Round of this year's FA Trophy. After losing at this stage last year, the Hamlet were aiming for a last-16 appearance for the first time in 33 years. Trailing 1-0 courtesy of a Mike West goal with 18 minutes to play, that wait looked like it would be continuing, but Dulwich had other ideas. First, a poor clearance from a Whitehawk defender found Ibrahim Kargbo at the edge of the area. He crossed and Gavin Tomlin was there to plant a header into the bottom corner. Three minutes later, the game was turned on its head, as Tomlin popped up again, this time Nathan Green the architect, as Tomlin this time found the other corner. Dulwich had their tails up, and duly found a third, Nyren Clunis capitalising on a weak pass to tee up Ashley Carew to smash home from just outside the box. The cherry on top of the cake was added in injury time, when Carew reacted fasted following Hawks keeper Ross Flitney saving his penalty attempt to make it four goals in 18 minutes, and complete an unbelievable turnaround. Gavin Rose and his troops will now travel to National League side Braintree Town in Round Three on February 4th. Dulwich Hamlet have released a member of their first-team squad at the start of this week, with winger Roman Michael-Percil leaving the club. Michael-Percil signed for Hamlet from the Metropolitan Police back in March, and made nine starts before the end of the campaign, including the playoff final defeat to East Thurrock United. This season he managed to make 17 appearances, although ten of these came from the bench, and scored his only goal for the club in the Alan Turvey Trophy win over Greenwich Borough. Several first-team members also took part in a behind-closed doors friendly against a Bromley XI, including run-outs for Ibrahim Kargbo and Alfred Mugabo as they continue their return from injuries.
During Dulwich's home game with Bognor Regis Town last month, Dulwich Hamlet TV visited the Rabblers Rest, the new outdoor bar at Champion Hill, built within the old groundsman hut. We spoke to Zehra Budden about the need for such a facility, the initial success of the bar, what drinks they stock and how the choice of name came about.
