Max's Mexican F1 Masterpiece by Peter Windsor
Max's Mexican F1 Masterpiece by Peter Windsor

The script ran exactly as predicted: Max Verstappen and Red Bull-Honda took control of the Mexican GP from the first, full-tank laps on the Pirelli medium tyre - and thereafter controlled the one-stop race. Max even took the lead around the outside at the first corner, again as predicted on this channel on Saturday. Lewis Hamilton extracted the maximum from his Mercedes to fend off a challenge from Sergio Perez in the other Red Bull-Honda and thus to finish second; and Pierre Gasly finished a good fourth for Alpha Tauri-Honda, leading home the two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. More than anything, though, this race was a testament to Adrian Newey and his tech team at Red Bull: parlaying a major top speed deficiency, the Red Bull - particularly on the Pirelli mediums - was just outstanding in the thin air of Mexico City, as Peter Windsor describes. Follow on Twitter: http://goo.gl/TsvaMs Like on Facebook: http://goo.gl/sBqGfi With Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton slicing his way from P11 on the grid to P5, the door was wide open in Turkey for his team-mate, Valtteri Bottas, to score his first win of the 2021 season. Could he beat the two Red Bull-Hondas when it mattered? Answer: yes. Max Verstappen nonetheless took the World Championship lead by finishing second - but why, in conditions in which he normally thrives, was he beaten on the day by Valtteri? Peter Windsor in this video unravels the stories behind an intriguing Turkish GP. Follow on Twitter: http://goo.gl/TsvaMs Like on Facebook: http://goo.gl/sBqGfi F1's second sprint qualifying race provided a perfect result for Red Bull Honda's Max Verstappen, who now starts the Italian GP from the pole. It was seriously frustrating, however, for Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, who dropped from the front row to P4 on tomorrow's grid after a very slow start on medium-compound Pirellis. The sprint race was won from the pole by Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas - but the Finn starts tomorrow from the back of the grid following a power unit change. McLaren-Mercedes drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris, who started on Pirelli softs, effectively finished second and third - and tomorrow could prove to be a major problem for the reigning champion. In this video Peter Windsor analyses the results and looks ahead to Sunday's race. Follow on Twitter: http://goo.gl/TsvaMs Like on Facebook: http://goo.gl/sBqGfi Although Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton was fastest on Silverstone Friday, it was Red Bull-Honda's Max Verstappen who won the historic F1 sprint race on Saturday and thus starts the British GP from the pole. Red Bull sacrificed more top speed to cure the understeer problem they faced on Friday - and the package worked almost-perfectly, with Max taking the lead of the sprint from the start and holding it to the finish, despite a blistered right-front tyre. Despite enjoying a top-speed advantage, Lewis finished a fighting second ahead of his team-mate, Valtteri Bottas; and Charles Leclerc was an excellent fourth for Ferrari. It was Alpine's Fernando Alonso, though, who was the star of the race, as Peter Windsor describes in this video. (Note: as a result of his first-lap contretemps with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, George Russell has been served with a three-place grid penalty. This was announced after this video had been processed.) F1's Sea of Orange...for both Max and Lando! by Peter Windsor
F1's Sea of Orange...for both Max and Lando! by Peter Windsor

Follow on Twitter: http://goo.gl/TsvaMs Like on Facebook: http://goo.gl/sBqGfi Although Max Verstappen and Red Bull-Honda made it three pole positions in a row in Austria, the championship leader's lap time was all-but-matched by McLaren-Mercedes' Lando Norris. And with Sergio Perez making a 1-3 for Red Bull, the two factory Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, will be starting only P4-P5. George Russell brilliantly qualified his Williams P9 (now P8, following Sebastian Vettel's penalty); Yuki Tsunoda is right up there in P7, behind team-mate Pierre Gasly with the Alpha Tauri-Honda, but neither Ferrari driver, nor Fernando Alonso, made it through to Q3 (although Sainz will now start P10 as a result of Vettel, who qualified P8, being penalised three grid positions for massively impeding Fernando Alonso at T10). Peter Windsor in this video offers his thoughts. Follow on Twitter: http://goo.gl/TsvaMs Like on Facebook: http://goo.gl/sBqGfi Red Bull-Honda's Max Verstappen delivered another superlative performance to win the Styrian GP - the first of two double-headers in the mountain foothills of Spielberg. He made it look easy, leading as he did from the pole to the flag - but that of course belies the pressure he sustained from Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, who finished second (and set fastest lap). Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas beat his Red Bull-Honda counterpart, Sergio Perez, to the minor podium position; and Lando Norris finished an excellent fifth for McLaren-Mercedes; by contrast, his McLaren team-mate, Daniel Ricciardo, made a strong start from the mid-field but was never able to regain ground after a brief loss of engine power. George Russell was again awesome before his Williams-Mercedes suffered an air leak; and Charles Leclerc drove brilliantly for Ferrari to finish P7 after stopping on the first lap for a new nose section, as Peter Windsor reports. Follow on Twitter: http://goo.gl/TsvaMs Like on Facebook: http://goo.gl/sBqGfi It seemed for a while that the French GP would lapse into a two-dimensional, one-stop battle of tyre attrition. Then Max Verstappen and Red Bull-Honda decided to make second stop for tyres...and the race was on. It was the reverse, if you like of this year's Spanish GP - although, more likely, its outcome - Max's victory - was related to the events in Baku two weeks ago, as Peter Windsor suggests in this video. Lewis Hamilton finished a fighting second for Mercedes, his Pirellis stretched to the maximum; Sergio Perez made it a 1-3 for Red Bull-Honda; Valtteri Bottas struggled home fourth for Mercedes; and McLaren-Mercedes finished an impressive 5-6.
