Matt Welsh turned in one of his finest performances of the QMJHL season in the Charlottetown Islanders goal Thursday in QMJHL action at Scotiabank Centre. The Halifax native turned aside 37 Mooseheads shots leading the Islanders to a 2-0 shutout win. The game's first star has always savoured the opportunity to come back to play in his hometown and sparkled as the Mooseheads could not find a way to solve the 3rd year QMJHL veteran. Keith Getson is entering his 4th season in the Quebec Major junior Hockey League with the Charlottetown Islanders. The hard working Bridgewater, Nova Scotia native has seen his role evolve from a 16 year old rookie to now the team's leading goal scorer. Getson scored 50 goals with South Shore Mustangs of the NSMMHL and appears to have found his touch in the first month of the season with 6 goals already. Matt Murphy is a 22 year old defenceman entering his 2nd season with the UNB Varsity Reds in the Atlantic University Sport hockey conference. Murphy was roginally drafted by Val d'Or in the QMJHL but was traded to Halifax where he went onto win the 2013 Memorial Cup. Murphy was later dealt to Quebec and eventually ended up in Saint John but is now on the Fredericton campus and still is considering playing pro hockey. Halifax Mooseheads defeat Acadie-Bathurst Titan 4-3 in the home opener at Scotiabank Centre before 7,400 plus in Saturday night. Arnaud Durandeau snapped a 3 all tie in the 3rd and the Mooseheads improved their record to 3 and 1. First star Filip Zadina scored 2 goals and BO Groulx had the other. Brennan Saulnier is about to enter his 4th season at the University of Alabama, Huntsville. He is coming off a strong season with the NCAA Division 1 school and earned Conference Player of the week and Player of the month honours. The 23 year old Halifax native also earned an invite to a month long Montreal Canadians camp in July and made the most of the opportunity. He felt good about his camp and even was involved in a rare fight during the camp. He didn't recevie a contract offer and is heading back to Huntsville for his final season and hopefully receive his degree.
