Moncton Flyers captured the 2018 Atlantic Major Midget Hockey Title Sunday afternoon n East Hants wirth a 3-2 double overtime thrilling win over Dartmouth. Mooseheads prospect Cole Stewart scored the game winner and Lukas Cormier and Mark Richard also scored. Its the team;s 3rd Atlantic title. They now advance to Telus Cup in Sudbury later this month. Dal Tigers capture 6th straight AUS title

Dalhousie Tigers captured their 6th Atlantic University Sport womens volleyball championship Saturday night with a 5 set victory over the Acadia Axemen at the Memorial campius in St John's, Newfoundland. The Tigers won the first and 3rd sets but Acadia bounced back to win the 2nd and 4th and force a 5th set. Tigers won 15-6 in 5th set. Dal's 4th year outside hitter Emma Ciprick was tournament MVP and setter Courtney Baker was Conference MVP. Brett Budgell off to a strong start with Islanders

Brett Budgell is a 16 year old rookie with the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL. The St John's Nfld native was selected in the 2nd round of the 2017 summer draft in Saint John NB and decided to play with the Chicago Steel of the USHL til Christmas. He has joined the Islanders for the 2nd half and haveing a strong start with 6 points in 9 games. Islanders coach and GM Jim Hulton doesn't necessarily think Budgell will become a top end goal scorer but sees him as a future team captain. Chase Carter is a physical defenceman with Dartmouth Steele Subaru in the NSMMHL. He delivers a punishing hit on Moncton Flyers forward Yanick LeBlanc in the Flyers 4-1 win on Day 3 at the East Coast IceJam. No penalty on the play for the hit but LeBlanc was sent to box for thrown down. Kyle McGrath - Eagles rookie finding his game

Kyle McGrath is a 17 year old rookie with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The St John's, Nfld native was the top scorer in the province's major midget hockey league and was drafted by the Charlottetown Islanders and eventually traded to the Eagles. He broke his collar bone early in the season and a 2 and a half month layoff he is trying to find his game as a rookie in the Cape Breton lineup. Matt Welsh - Islanders MVP
Matt Welsh - Islanders MVP

18 year old Matt Welsh of the Charlottetown Islanders has turned in a remarkable 1st half to his 3rd Quebec Major Junior Hockey League seaosn. The Halifax native has backstopped the Islanders to a league leading 20 saves and is among the league leaders in save percentage .919 and goals against 2.35. He's allowed the Islanders to win games and suprise opponents in a year which was suppose to be a rebuild for the franchise. Welsh has been the team MVP in the first half and it could be argued he may be the league MVP. If the franchise record holder for most wins (55) has as good a 2nd half, he certainly will be among the candidates for league MVP. Jake Ryczek makes Mooseheads debut

Jake Ryczek makes his Halifax Mooseheads debut in the QMJHL Thursday one home ice against the Charlottetown Islanders. The 19 year old defenceman acquired from the Acadie-Bathurst Titan for a 1st tround pick and spent the first half of the season recovering from mono and playing sparingly with Providence Friars.
