Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce is confident his side will shake off their recent slump despite being without a win in 11 games. The magpies lost 2-1 at home to Leeds United in the English Premier League on Tuesday, a result that leaves them just two places above the relegation zone. The under pressure manager is optimistic however, boldly saying "If we keep well and we stay healthy in certain areas, then we'll be fine." West Brom boss Sam Allardyce said he is unsure if Christian Benteke will be signing for his team as 'The Baggies' are in talks with Crystal Palace over the 30-years-old striker. Benteke has been one of Allardyce's top priorities to strength the team since he was appointed West Brom manager last mid-December. Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne will miss up to six weeks with a hamstring injury, confirmed Pep Guardiola on Friday. The Belgian star limped off just before the hour in Wednesday night's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. Aston Villa manager Dean Smith expressed his anger at referee Jonathan Moss' decision to allow Bernardo Silva's opening goal in his side's 2-0 English Premier League defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, following the intervention of the video assistant referee (VAR). City midfielder Rodri was offside when Tyrone Mings intercepted a ball played forward, but ran back to challenge the Aston Villa defender and then fed Silva to score in the 79th minute. Smith was sent off for his protests about the goal and said to Moss with regards to his decision-making that he must have received "juggling balls for Christmas." But by the letter of the law, Rodri's goal was legitimate. In a statement, the group representing Premier League referees said: "As soon as Mings deliberately played the ball the following law applies: "A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball, including by deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent. "As the law deems that Rodri has not gained an advantage, he has not committed an offside offence and play should be allowed to continue. Rodri legitimately took possession of the ball from Mings, starting the attack which resulted in the goal." "I've got bigger things to worry about than what the Premier League thinks," said West Bromwich Albion manager Sam Allardyce on Tuesday. Speaking to the media following a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United, Allardyce was responding to a question about midfielder Robert Snodgrass who joined West Brom from the Hammers two weeks ago. The two clubs had allegedly come to a 'gentleman's agreement' that Snodgrass would not face his former side at the London Stadium on Tuesday. This is contrary to Premier League rules and the governing body is now said to be investigating. West Ham manager David Moyes was equally dismissive when questioned about Snodgrass's omission. "I don't think it is any of my business. I am not quite sure it is any of yours either, to be honest," said Moyes.
