Was The NEXT Kevin Durant! JONATHAN ISSAC Stunted Growth Story
Today’s feature was the 6th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and expected to be a pillar for the Orlando Magic in their rebuilding stage. That or possibly the face of the franchise if he developed into the potential he was seen to have as an amateur. He’s 6’11 so of course the Kevin Durant player comparisons swamed in, and deservedly so, seeing as Isaac showed he could put the ball on the floor at his size shoot from outside, post up, and create for himself at a smaller position, like SF, which he played for the most part in high school. Add to all that his biggest attribute was his defense and the presence he developed into by his third NBA season, averaging 2.3 a game that would’ve been good for top 3 in the league, but he didn’t qualify because he hadn’t played enough games. Not enough games played has become the story on Jonathan Isaac by 2022, only appearing in 136 games since he entered the league 5, about to be 6 seasons ago. Today Isaac is most known for his July 31st, 2020 NBA bubble decision not to kneel for the national anthem like everyone else in support of black lives matter, that was heavily criticized, to which he responded by saying “It’s my thought that kneeling or wearing a ‘Black Lives Matter’ t-shirt don’t go hand in hand with supporting black lives.”. It was a stance, no pun, that has shed a dark light over Isaac and him not backing down from his decision that in my opinion, made him a less attractive asset to an NBA team. What Happened? Did Michael Jordan End COREY BENJAMIN'S Career? Stunted Growth
Today’s feature won’t be known for his basketball highlights, as for him those are almost impossible to come by. But his story was almost tailor made for stunted growth. The inspiration of this story came from comments made by Ja Morant when asked about playing in Michael Jordan’s era what would it have been like. To which ja responded saying that he would’ve quote “cooked” him too. Immediately I began to think about Corey Benjamin, the post rookie averaging under 4 points a game, 67% from the foul line and 21% from 3 as a wing player, not to mention a field goal percentage of 37. In 1999 he sort of said the same thing about Jordan, only difference he was actually in Jordan’s era. Yes albeit after Jordan retired from the Bulls after 97-98, but this was still Michael Jordan, a little over a year from winning a championship and finals MVP. In a conversation with former Bulls player and Jordan teammate Randy Brown, Benjamin said something to the affect that he could beat MJ, or in Ja’s words I guess he thought he could cook him too. Luckily for Ja and not so much for Corey he doesn’t have to face MJ, because whether he meant in game or 1 on 1, Michael in his prime VS Ja Morant in his prime, I’m sure wouldn’t end like he thinks. Was TERRENCE JONES Really "The Next LEBRON" JAMES? Stunted Growth!
Prototypical player. It’s what Terrence Jones heard about himself his entire ammeter career, and for the most part that was true. You don’t find guys like Terrence Jones everyday. The unique thing about Jones, was that he was great for his era potential wise, but seen to have even more of that potential when the game finally transitioned into position less play. To be his size, with ball handling, athleticism, capable shooting, left handed and a strong pedigree of playing at the highest levels, made a lot to be desired from Terrence Jones. As a top 10 prospect leaving high school, he was a sure fire future lottery pick, perennial all star, and possible game changer at the power forward position with all his unique semi guard capabilities. None of those things happened. Nevertheless he was taken in the first round, 18th overall in 2012 by the Houston Rockets and expected to possibly be the star they desperately needed at the time. Unfortunately the Terrence Jones experiment didn’t last very long and after a brief stay, he was out of the league getting close lined in the Philippines. Here are 3 reasons his growth was stunted.
